Guy for Memphis countdown

Seven is jumping on the “countdown” format that has been so popular for Nine with a music special led by Guy Sebastian.

It will count down the most popular Memphis songs in an evening-based Sunrise special, Sunrise Presents: Your Song.

Sebastian will sing the top 5 viewer voted songs. The special ties in with a Memphis-recorded album and tour he has on sale.

The countdown format has been heavily used by Nine for 20 to 1 but even the ABC has had some end of year specials that look at favourite movies, books and albums.

Your Song airs 7:30pm Tue Dec 4.

Press Release:

The Seven Network is pleased to announce a special television event which pays tribute to some of the greatest music of all time.

Sunrise Presents: Your Song will honour the great musicians of Memphis – the undisputed home of rock ‘n’ roll, soul and blues. Over the next fortnight, Australians will have their chance to pass judgment and vote on their favourite songs from the likes of Elvis Presley, the Drifters and Aretha Franklin.

Australia’s very own soul-man Guy Sebastian will then perform the five most popular songs in front of a live television audience. Guy has a real connection to Memphis after recently returning from recording his latest album there with several musicians who wrote and recoded with Elvis, Otis Redding, Al Green and Wilson Pickett.

“Initially I thought I’d get to Memphis and freak out. I thought I was going to feel so inadequate but I got there and something grabbed hold of me and I just knew this was my arena,” Guy said.

“If I am going to shine in any arena, it is going to be blues and soul. I am really excited about performing on Your Song and can’t wait to find out what the number one song will be!”

On the night, there will also be a special duet by two of Australia’s most loved actors. Details will be revealed closer to the night.

“This is real good fun family TV,” says Co-Executive Producer Adam Boland.

“Not only will you get to see some all time classics given an all-new treatment, but you can join what is sure to be a heated debate about the number one song.”

Sunrise Presents: Your Song will be hosted by the Sunrise family of Kochie and Mel, Natalie Barr, Mark Beretta and Monique Wright. They’ll be joined on the night by some of the biggest names in showbiz as debate rages about the number one song.

So what’s your favourite Memphis song? Check out www.yahoo7.com.au/sunrise and start voting.

Sunrise Presents: Your Song will screen exclusively on Seven on Tuesday, December 4 at 7:30pm.

Guy Sebastian’s The Memphis Album is out now and tickets to the Memphis Tour go on sale today.

  1. Yeah Seven is the poor mans Nine and it’s working temporarily. But as for this show it really is the definition of lame and I’m cringing just thinking of it. A Sunrise special with Guy Sebastian..positively bone chilling. At least 20-1 has some hip cred and isn’t some cheap promo for Guy Sebastian’s latest POC.

  2. So really, just what to expect from Seven….

They’ve got to where they are by copying Nine. Sadly it’s worked….

Nine executives. Nine Celebrities. Nine production values and ideas for the last couple of years and similar marketing concepts….

The turmoil at Nine didn’t help, so all that’s really happened is Seven becomes Nine…

    Now they’re doing a countdown show?… Geez…..
