Sunrise is to resume its regular political segment next year with federal Housing Minister Tanya Plibersek and opposition MP Greg Hunt.
Kevin Rudd and Joe Hockey were previously regulars but Rudd had to drop his participation after he became opposition leader.
Seven Producer Adam Boland said, “While Tanya and Greg may not be household names yet, Sunrise viewers will get to know them as people not just politicians – just as they did Kevin and Joe,” Mr Boland said.
“Sunrise is committed to spin-free politics.
“Tanya was part of Seven’s recent election coverage and Greg has appeared on Sunrise many times.”
Press Release:
Sunrise has unveiled the newest members of its family – the Federal Government’s Tanya Plibersek and the Federal Opposition’s Greg Hunt.
Tanya and Greg will go head to head each Friday morning, replacing Kevin Rudd and Joe Hockey as Sunrise’s Big Guns of Politics.
“While Tanya and Greg may not be household names yet, Sunrise viewers will get to know them as people not just politicians – just as they did Kevin and Joe,” says Director of Morning Television Adam Boland.
“Sunrise is committed to spin-free politics. Tanya was part of Seven’s recent Election Coverage and Greg has appeared on Sunrise many times. We know they’ll fit into the family really well.”
Tanya Plibersek is the Minister for Housing and the Minister for the Status of Women. She grew up in the southern suburbs of Sydney and is the youngest of three children. Tanya is married and has two kids, Anna, six years old, and Joe aged two.
“I’m really excited about appearing on Sunrise with Mel, Kochie and the team. The new government has a big agenda for 2008 and I’m looking forward to sharing our plans with Channel 7 viewers throughout the year,” says Tanya.
Greg Hunt is the Shadow Minister for Climate Change, Environment and Urban Water. He grew up in Victoria and is a fitness fanatic. In the last three years he has walked more than 1000kms to raise awareness of juvenile diabetes. Greg is married and has a daughter, Poppy.
“I’m looking forward to sharing my passion for the environment and tales of managing a charming, but wild two-year old daughter with the Sunrise family.”
The new Big Guns of Politics will make their first appearance on Australia’s most popular breakfast show on Friday 25 January 2008.

its such a pity grant isn’t on Sunrise still. I might watch it again if he were. so would all the females in my house…
I loved Tanya Plibersek on the election coverage she was great should be a good addition
What an interesting comment from the first commentator… it not only shows a wilful ignorance of politics (which is critical, by the way) but also an inability to even read the post properly!
“Sunrise is committed to spin-free politics.”
hah!!!
If Kochy and Mel aint the biggest conservatives on C7, I’ll eat this whole wheel of cheese.
WOW look at this seven getting their hands on Tanya Plibersek and Greg Hunt.. I’m sure their gonna be household names in some homes, but as for my home not so what ever. These politicians look so boring, what could they bring to the seven table, NOTHING…..
