First look at new Nine schedule

The Nine Network has released preliminary information on its schedule for the first week of ratings, and Underbelly looks set to screen on either Tuesday or Wednesday evenings.

Cautiously leaving several spots as “TBA”, Nine furthers industry speculation of 8:30pm Wednesday as the likely contender.

One of the key changes is the earlier starting time of 7:30am for Sunday*. It remains to be seen if the move is permanent. Regulars including Ellen Fanning, Laurie Oakes. Stephanie Brantz, dropped from the cricket commentary team last year, co-presents sport with Tony Jones.

As reported here earlier, Nine’s opening Sunday on February 10 will be dominated by commitments to cricket through to 10pm.

Monday night sees the premiere of A Year with the Royal Family followed by new CSI and CSI: NY. Nip / Tuck remains at 10:30pm. All Tuesday slots from 7:30 – 11:30pm remain TBA.

On Wednesday The Chopping Block airs at 7:30pm. Thursdays is Getaway at 7:30pm followed by RPA, The Gift, Amazing Medical Stories and Rapid Response.

Fridays is again dominated by cricket. Saturday is Australia’s Funniest Home Videos (without any mention of host) plus more TBA. A two and half hour slot marked “TBA” is interesting. Could the new Survivor take up residence? It premieres in the US on Feb 7.

In other news, Two and Half Men continues in the 7pm weeknight timeslot with Temptation likely to rest a little longer. At 5:00pm the Bargain Hunt / Antiques Roadshow double returns as a lead-in to National Nine News.

Yet to be slated are Underbelly, Monster House, Power of Ten, Pushing Daisies, Sarah Connor Chronicles and Cashmere Mafia.

  1. Why don’t Nine try Tempation at 5:30 or Two 1/2 men at 5:30? Also Cashmere Mafia is fading in America, it can barley get 5 million viewers. The Show is up against no other scripted drama, would’nt this tell nine not to air this show?

  2. David, in common sense it is obvious the cashmere mafia will go into the 9.30pm wed timeslot. Theres no more room and underbelly goes for 2hrs on its premiere night which leaves the next week at 9.30pm blank!

  3. RE: A Year with the Royal Family (aka Monarchy). According to the Herald Sun TV Guide today, series writer and Royal Mail journalist Robert Hardman has written a companion book of the same name. Although Nine probably won’t mention it on air, it’s available at Dymocks bookshops around Australia.

And David, do you think more BBC-commissioned programs will be shown on commercial networks in Australia in the future?

  4. Here’s an idea. A show called ‘TBA’. No-one knows what it will be until after the opening title sequence when Bert spins a wheel and a genre comes up. A medical makeover show featuring Joey Fatone and singing paramedics, perhaps? Or grizzy stories of US wife swaps gone wrong, revoiced by Mike Munro? Maybe a smash-hit reality show featuring 100 audience members (“The Mob”), Scott Cam, a polygraph and a bikini-clad Catriona Rowntree? Or even a CSI repeat?
    Gyngell, call me.

  5. Cool, has potential to be another Blue Heelers just with much stronger material.

I don’t like how they have Two and a half Men at 7pm, Temptation was solid, if not beating H&A, it was always over 1 million.

  6. Why do they still have the most boring drivel known as Antiques Roadshow and Bargain Hunt as their lead in for the news! They’re not going to win the news that way!

Otherwise, Underbelly, Terminator, The Chopping Block and others look like great shows that I can’t wait for.

  7. In defence of Nine this is in keeping with their regular procedure. They are protecting their interests from competitors. Every week they release a guide with TBA slots and then send amendments closer to airtime.

Seven for instance has also sent out info for that week with some TBAs. But I can’t even divulge that info until the embargo lifts on Thursday.

TV Tonight has opted to bring you the Nine schedule thus far rather than wait until other times are locked in, but it shouldn’t be viewed as a stupid move by Nine at all. It’s very strategic.

  8. So the better shows that everyone is hanging for still are not scheduled. What was the point of even letting that information out? Stupid Nine. Why can’t they just give us the details we want to know!
