TEN 2008 line-up revealed

Network TEN is the first commercial FTA network to unveil its new schedule for the 2008 ratings season. It ambitiously includes some US shows in short supply due to the writers strike.

It will kick off Sunday nights with the reality double Biggest Loser and So You Think You Can Dance Australia. From 9pm it will alternate Rove and movies.

The Biggest Loser continues as its stripped 7pm weeknight show with longer one hour editions on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

So You Think You Can Dance Australia also has a Monday night edition followed by Good News Week and new Supernatural.

Tuesdays is new Bondi Rescue, Womens Murder Club and Burn Notice. Wednesday continues the success of comedy for TEN with Rules of Engagement and Back to You. New episodes of House and Numb3rs follow.

Thursday brings Saving Kids with new SVU and Medium. Fridays continues Kid Nation and movies. Saturdays its AFL or movies.

Only four episodes of House will have aired in the US by the time TEN starts its 08 slate, due to the writers strike. Only three episodes of Medium and two Supernatural eps will have screened.

TEN has also announced it will screen Dexter later this year (it already airs on Foxtel) plus more Don’t Forget the Lyrics (there are rumours of an Aussie version in the pipeline). Conspicuous by their absence are Torchwood season 2 and Flight of the Conchords.

Ratings commences Sunday Feb 10.

Press Release:

Two of the most anticipated shows of 2008, So You Think You Can Dance Australia and The Biggest Loser, will burst on to screens Sunday February 3, leading the charge in TEN’s stellar line up. These marquee domestic programs are the first of many shows to premiere over the subsequent two weeks building an enviable program of entertainment.

David Mott, chief programming officer, Network Ten: “TEN is in one of the strongest positions ever leading into the 2008 ratings season.”

“The audience response to So You Think You Can Dance Australia, The Biggest Loser and now Good News Week, is more promising than even we imagined.”

“Our domestic slate is robust, complementing our enviable US line-up and we are not shy about getting our schedule out there in what we all recognise as TV’s most competitive time of year.”

Also premiering for the first time on Australian screens will be the US hit from international crime writing success James Pattersons, Women’s Murder Club, not to mention the return of comedy gurus Kelsey Grammar and Patricia Heaton in Back to You, with David Spade and Patrick Warburton in Rules of Engagement.

Damien Leith will make his first appearance on TV away from his first love, singing, as host of Saving Kids with Damien Leith, and help tell some of the most heart-warming and inspiring stories from the Sydney Children’s Hospital.

TEN’s line-up of the year will be complemented by the return of TV favourites from home and abroad: Bondi Rescue, House, Supernatural, SVU, Numb3rs, Medium and hot new comers Kid Nation and Burn Notice.

Throughout the year TEN can boast a staggering depth of product with: Rove, Kenny, NCIS, Life, 5th Grader, Australian Idol, Saving Babies, Dexter, Neighbours, AFL, brand new Simpsons, brand new Futurama, How To Look Good Naked, Army Wives, Don’t Forget the Lyrics, Deadliest Catch 2, Ice Road Truckers, My Dad Is Better Than Your Dad, Supernatural, Law & Order, Criminal Intent, Top Model and Pussycat Dolls “Girlilicious”.

  1. No Law & Order: Criminal Intent or NCIS so that makes me sad. I am looking forward to GNW and Rove.
SVU should be followed by Law & Order (screening now in the US) or Criminal Intent.
Rush is a cop show (Aussie I presume) and was previously rejected after the pilot.

  2. Ten has treated TORCHWOOD very poorly … they have wasted an opportunity! Season 2 is now on in the UK and looking great.
I think that TEN have been scared by how “gay” it is and not very mainstream in it’s stories… it would have been handled much better on SBS or ABC!
    Jack!

  3. Yaay! New Futurama was mentioned in the press release! 😀 And BOO to replacing The Simpsons at 6pm with the outdated and unfunny Friends. At least The Simpsons has stood the test of time, even after 19 years.

Ten’s currently schedule is extremely underwhelming, and I’m so glad I downloaded The Simpsons episodes in advance seeing as TEN seem to have forgotten to slot it in their schedule.

  4. I’m surprised that they’ve dropped male-skewed NCIS from Tuesday nights and gone for the female-skewed Women’s Murder Club. I think it would have made more sense to keep NCIS there, where it still does very well against Dancing with the Stars and It Takes Two. I think Women’s Murder Club would have been better for Thursday night, as a lead-in for Medium.

  5. Please all be patient at this time of year. Networks are being very coy about their plans and then suddenly they will be wanting our attention everywhere to talk about their shows.

This year, complicating life further, is the strike. It’s as frustrating to programmers as it is to viewers, with little clarity on the immediate future. As such it is a bit of a guessing game to everyone.

Dexter won’t air til Showcase is well and truly done with it, and very possibly CBS. Probably second part of year, from season one.

Life won’t have many eps in supply. The longer they hold off the more time they buy. it won’t be the only “streaming” or “fast-tracked” show that is delayed. The irony is if we didn’t have fasttracking, as has always been the case, they could have started with these shows while the strike sorts itself out. Therefore, Australia’s first experiment in fast-tracking has not come without cost.

No NCIS yet. TEN seems to be moving away from a previously male-skewed Tuesday line-up.

  6. David, any idea on when 10 will be airing Dexter, and also what sort of timeslot would you expect them to air it in?What season would they start with? 1 or 2???

  7. How are Channel 10 bringing House back? They have one unscreened episode from the period last year where they “fast tracked” it. IMDB only lists two more episodes after that point with US airdates of late Jan and early Feb.
With the Writer’s Strike it is hard to believe that any more episodes are being written/made, so what are Channel 10 going to show after three weeks? Repeats?

  8. David, regarding your comment about the AFL, don’t forget the pre-season NAB Cup starts mid-February, and Ten will show five matches including the Grand Final.

  9. Wow, I do have to admit Ten surprised me by doing a CBS and deciding to air Dexter. Good on them, and smart, as it should be a modest hit, and with two seasons in the can, it will help the network survive the writer’s strike (that said, with the director’s guild agreeing to a truce, I expect in the next two or three weeks there should be a resolution).

  10. TEN’s info betwen 9-10:30pm as Rove / Movies (and indeed AFL / Movies Sat 7:30 – 10:30) is unclear. My use of “alternating” wasn’t meant to throw a cat amongst the pigeons. It may mean possibly season on-off as 40 weeks is a hard slog for a host. On the other hand it may also be interpreted as one after the other. AFL doesn’t start until March 20 so it’s hard to know what the programme grid that was sent means.

Before The Game is back as indicated.

  11. David I read in one of your other posts that there is a old TV shows returning to TEN called “RUSH” how long ago was it on as I can’t remember it?

Googled abit for it but can’t seem to find any info on it do you have any more info about this show ?

  12. It’s weird they’re bringing back House & Supernatural so early when there are so few episodes left. David you mention only a few episodes of Medium too. How come, as it wasn’t “fast tracked” last year?

  13. Psych might come back late at night or on TEN HD I’ve heard… will see what happens this was a good show to bad the ratings were to low to keep it going on TEN 🙁

  14. Looking good can’t wait to see the return of GNW should be good and also looking forward to seeing Frasier ( Kelsey Grammer ) back on TV used to love Frasier hopefully this is just as good Go TEN 🙂
