Airdate: Stockinger

SBS is set to screen the spin-off from its popular Inspector Rex series from Austria.

Stockinger stars the subtly funny Karl Markovics, the “straight man” to Rex and Moser. In this series he relocates to Salzburg to be with his wife who inherited her father’s dental practice.

It premieres at 7:30pm Thursday February 28.

The first case involves the gruesome murder of one of the city’s most important chocolate manufacturers.

Sandra Cervik stars as Detective Antonella Simone. But no dog?

Press Release:

Salzburg, home of all things Mozart, The Sound of Music, and District Inspector Stockinger, former colleague of everyone’s favourite canine police dog, Rex.

Stockinger, a spin-off series of the hugely popular Inspector Rex series begins on SBS Television Thursday March 6 at 7.30pm. In tonight’s first episode, Salzburg Confection, Stockinger has moved to the province of Salzburg to be with his wife, Karin, who has inherited her father’s dental practice.

His arrival coincides with one of the city’s most important annual attractions – the performance of the mystery play Everyman, presented on the steps of Salzburg’s Cathedral. Unfortunately for the dour detective, he misses the performance, gets caught in traffic and arrives late at the office.

Stockinger’s first case is the gruesome murder of one of the city’s most important chocolate manufacturers, Fehling. His bitter business rival, Baldinger, is the number one suspect as far as Stockinger’s boss is concerned.

Confronted with a philosophising middle-aged boss who doesn’t seem to understand the case at all, a wary partner and a growing list of suspects, Stockinger must use all his detective skills to solve the case.

The series stars Karl Markovics and Detective Inspector Stockinger and Sandra Cervik as Detective Antonella Simone.
