Two charged over AFL medical records

Two people have appeared in a Melbourne court charged with stealing the confidential medical records of two AFL players.

The records were used to form part of a ‘drugs in sport’ story by reporter Dylan Howard on Seven News in Melbourne last August.

Following the story, the newsroom was raided by Victoria Police and led to a viewer backlash and a boycott by the AFL Player’s Association.

The Heidelberg Magistrates Court has heard Robert Crouch and Catherine Mitchell, both of Ivanhoe, will contest the charges.

It is alleged they sold the records to Channel Seven.

Police told the court Channel Seven’s Dylan Howard is not a relevant witness at this stage but is still being investigated.

Crouch and Mitchell will return to court later this year.
