Jodhi may exit media roles

“It’s not something that I ever agreed to do, or would ever agree to do,” Jodhi Meares has said. “I am not an entertainer, I don’t aspire to handle crowds of that level. I said that upfront and Foxtel were totally fine about it.”

Meares has responded to media criticism for her failure to host the finale of Australia’s Next Top Model and indicated she does not expect a future gig.

Meares, 37, told Grazia magazine, which hits newsstands today, producers knew she was not prepared to do live TV when they signed her to the show. She said the media hounding in the wake was unwarranted.

“When it happened, I didn’t know how to feel. I thought, `What the hell do I do?’ Obviously I have dealt with media interest in me before, but not on that scale and not for no reason, like this it really got out of hand.

“I am not an actress or a movie star. I think if you wanted that all your life then you might be better prepared for the glare that follows.”

Meares called police to fend off reporters at her Sydney home last week before fleeing to Hamilton Island.

And any plans to salvage her Foxtel contract are off the agenda, with Meares saying she does not expect to stay in the media.

“I don’t see it as something I will need to manage in the future,” she said.

Amen to that.

  1. Well, clearly she didn’t alert them as it was said she bailed 48 hours before. If she’s going to whinge, she should at least make a convincing point.

I don’t know what she expects. She’s appearing in the media, so she has to deal with the repercussions of her choice. If she didn’t want all this attention, then perhaps she should’ve pursued a career that didn’t involve hundreds of thousands of people watching her each week.
