Creative Arts Emmy winners

In the lead up to their big event, the Creative Arts Emmys have recognised The Simpsons, 30 Rock, Mad Men, Kathy Griffin and yes, "Mrs. McCluskey."

In the lead up to the PrimeTime Emmy Awards next week, the US TV industry has just handed out its Creative Arts Emmy Awards, mostly honouring achievements in categories like makeup, costumes, sound editing and art direction.

The wins were dominated by HBO’s historical miniseries John Adams, about the second US president, with eight awards. Mad Men was the second most celebrated program of the night, and the number one series, with four awards. The wins will firm their place in next week’s big awards.

In acting awards, Kathryn Joosten, best known as the nosey ‘Mrs McCluskey’ on Desperate Housewives picked up an award for the second time. TV veteran Tim Conway won for playing an old-time star on 30 Rock, one of three awards for that series. Cynthia Nixon was named best guest actress in a drama for her role as a mother with multiple personalities accused of killing her daughters on Law & Order: SVU. Glynn Turman won best guest actor in a drama for In Treatment.

There were also wins for South Park, THAT Sarah Silverman video about Matt Damon and for Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List, named best reality program.

But for the 10th time, The Simpsons was named best half-hour animated show. A complete list follows:
