Home & Away to shoot in Melbourne

Flamin' hell. For the first time in the show's history, Home & Away is to film down south.

It’s actually surprising it has taken so long… but Home & Away is going to film on location in Melbourne this week.

The Seven soap will shoot “in the heart of Melbourne” for episodes to air in 2009. Cast members will include Josh Quong-Tart and Esther Anderson.

While Neighbours has previously filmed in Sydney, it is the first time Home & Away‘s 20 year history it has filmed in Melbourne.

Actor Ray Meagher said “it’s a wonderful way to repay the loyalty of our Victorian fans”.

The serial has previously filmed in London.

Next stop: Yabbie Creek?

Press Release:
Channel Seven today announced episodes of its long-running series Home and Away will be filmed in Melbourne this coming week, for the first time.

Cast and crew will take a temporary leave from Summer Bay to film at various locations in the heart of Melbourne, in storylines that will be seen on air in early 2009.

Home and Away veteran, Ray Meagher, who plays Alf Stewart, said “it’s a wonderful way to repay the loyalty of our Victorian fans”.

“Melbourne is a great city for some of our Summer Bay residents to visit.”

Cast members will include Summer Bay schoolteacher Miles (Josh Quong-Tart) and police officer Charlie (Esther Anderson). Plus, some other surprises.

Home and Away series producer, Cameron Welsh said: “We are all excited about Home and Away coming to Melbourne – we have a great storyline and we look forward to shooting in some fantastic locations and working with some of the local Melbourne acting community.”

Home and Away will be showcasing the streets of Melbourne to 174 countries in the world where it’s telecast to an international audience of over 50 million people. Previously, Home and Away has filmed in London – where it is also hugely popular.

  1. Most shows are filmed in Melbourne, City Homicide, Rush, Neighbours, Rove etc

For some reason, when their is a show or a sports game and such, Melbourne always gets the larger crowds than Sydney.

Melbourne was also the first city in Australia to receive TV, Sydney got TV 8 years after Melbourne in the 1800’s.

  2. Charlie Has Had A Tofe Time With Morag and Her DadGetting Married She Did not like morag but now she and morag get along and now Charlie is a busy ladie becasue she works t the police statsion

  3. Gimme a break. I thought Australians were over caring about where a particular series is shot. All Saints is unashamedly set in Sydney just as The Strip doesn’t pretend to be anywhere other than the Gold Coast. I feel like I’m back in the ’80s again when shows like Sons and Daughters and Prisoner showed off characters in interstate settings just to score a few extra ratings points in the markets where they weren’t produced. Anyone else remember Queen Bea on the run in Sydney with a job as a maid in a harbourside mansion?

  4. Not a bad idea actually, Melbournes is probably the shows weakest market and Melbournians like things that are filmed in their city so should provide at least a short term ratings shot for the show when the scenes air next year
