Airdate: Mythbusters: Super Sized Myths

A two hour super-sized special with Jamie and Adam coming -but to Nine not SBS.

UPDATED: Now shelved to be replaced by The Mentalist. CSI: NY remains at 9:30pm.

Nine has a two hour Mythbusters special “Super Sized Myths” set to air later this month.

The boys from Mythbusters are generally associated with SBS, but have also been seen fleetingly on the Seven Network.

The special will air at 8:30pm Wednesday October 29, meaning no Fringe or CSI: NY for that night.

Hosts Jamie Hyneman and Adam Savage are back in this two hour special which hits everything possible! Sharks, taxis, rocket cars and cruise ships.

  1. The Mythbusters special is still listed in this week’s issue of TV Week-guess they don’t know that the special won’t air because Nine has shelved plans for it.

While over on Discovery Channe;, they’re airing the pilot eps again-and we haven’t seen season 7 eps yet.

Then again-Nine’s programmers don’t know what they are doing to timeslots and shows.

  2. Yes Bindi they took a week off for Fringe on Oct 7, which means we are now much closer in turnaround at this point in time. No more previews for reviewers groan!

I’m not sure what their plans are for Fringe hence why I didn’t reference anything outside of Oct 29.

  3. I’m not watching fringe – it’ looks really appealing, but i cant commit myself to watching it, when i know that 9 will eventually and inevitably put it on ice midway (or earlier) during the season. The only reason im not downloading it is that with the other shows im downloading (sarah connor, heroes etc) – it’d max-out my download quota……time for an upgraded broadband plan 🙂

  4. Aaaand off to “illegal” download land for Fringe I go. Which also means no more censorship. It’s all win, no loss.

It’s very telling about the state of TV in this country that only 2 years ago I had a 20GB download limit and that sufficed to get me the shows the local networks screwed around; now I’m about to click over to a *200* GB plan because the 60GB I have at the moment isn’t enough.

    Australian TV: obsolete.

Oh, and yes, as a perfect example of the above, Seven did indeed show this “Super Sized Myths” special a very short time ago, brutally edited to cut more than half its run time out. I won’t be bothering again with it on Nine, needless to say.

Now, who wants to lay money on yet another 20 to 1 “special” filling the Fringe slot within the next few weeks? 🙂

  5. although i was looking at the US schedule and they took a week off between episodes 4 and 5 so now we are getting episodes only hours after they screen in the US, just like with house. so maybe they are planning on taking another break after episode 6 in the US, in which case 9 will be in need of a filler like this. so maybe this was the plan they had even without deciding to axe it, but then with the poor ratings it is getting it would be pretty gutsy of them to not axe it.

  6. Just great I really like Fringe and Mythbusters and like knoxoverstreet said Nine’s most like will change the time or even take it off completely fingers crossed that they don’t take it off air if so than I hope that they put it on DVD asap after the first season ends.

By the way how’s the Mentalist going in the ratings on nine?

  7. theres no way in hell Fringe will return to the 8.30pm slot the week after this airs, nine will be hoping that people wont notice it isnt there if it has a week off..

  8. ahhh, what’s the bet this is the death nail in the fringe coffin. ratings keep on slipping and now they’ll use this to disappear it entirely, what will they fill the slot with after this, a string of one-off specials? i knew it was not a good idea to watch fringe until 9 had shown the whole thing for fear of it disappearing, just a shame i wasn’t proven wrong, it has had a longer than expected run so i thought they may actually just show me. i keep being tempted to watch it but as the ratings keep falling i know not to count my chickens before they hatch and am still waiting to see, looks like i’ll just keep on waiting, plenty of room on my PVR and every episode of fringe is just sitting there, ready when i am.

  9. “sharks, taxis, rocket cars and cruise ships…”

Didn’t Seven air this exact same episode only a few months ago (just before the Olympics, after the finale of the last season of the Amazing Race if I recall correctly)?

And what’s Nine doing with it?

  10. Won’t it be fun if this breaks the ratings records in two weeks!

It’s this the one that ch7 aired back in August but cut down to 1 hour? BTW it aired almost a year ago in the US.

So how long before ch9 “rests” Fringe until 2009?
