Block it in, Eddie.

Who wants to live like a millionaire? As PBL Media cuts staff, Eddie McGuire buys a new Toorak mansion, forking out a rumoured $11m.

As PBL Media struggles with its crippling debt and the global financial crisis swirls, the axe has been falling on staff. But Eddie McGuire is buying up, moving from one street in Toorak to another, and paying handsomely for the privilege.

He is believed to have paid $11m for a single story Georgian style mansion in a small court just off prestigious St Georges Road. The block includes a tennis court, swimming pool and huge garden.

Title records show the property was offloaded in a quiet sale by Applied Chemicals executive Ian Hicks, but will be registered in the name of Eddie’s wife, Carla. Local agency sources say the home was built by prominent commercial property developer David Deague more than ten years ago.

McGuire paid $1.275 million for his current Dunraven Street block in 1996 and rebuilt a contemporary home, part of which was destroyed by fire in 2001. As well as the modern home, his Dunraven Street estate includes an older home, both are expected to be sold.

With rumours of more job cuts ahead McGuire enjoys a reported $4m a year salary despite his only ‘significant’ appearances on television this year being a story on 60 Minutes, a week hosting A Current Affair and an interview on The Footy Show.

  1. I think it’s worth 4 million just to keep Eddie off air. And as Mike says, Eddie can spend his money as he pleases. Please, just keep him in Melbourne.

  2. Nine been saying they waiting for perfect show for Eddie too host, taken them all year still nothing on horizon. We would all like to be paid millions of dollars a year to do nothing lol,and what eddie spends his money on is none of the publics concern

  3. i do not understand at all why people like eddie, let alone pay 4mil a year just so he doesn’t leave.

these days he has the image of: i am a super succesful rich buisiness person i only care about personal sucess and being centre of attention, and i sleep in a suit

if i was 9 i would pay him $400,000,001 just to never be seen on the network again

  4. wish nine would give me a job. I could do a week on aca, a 60 minutes story and a few footy show apperances and i’ll do it for a lot les too!

How the other half live hey! The gap is getting wider and wider!

  5. Well here is further evidence that channel 9 really is stupid (which could have been left unsaid). Cutting quality left, right, and centre from the network while still forking out 4 million a year for a network personality we barely see.

  6. If Nine wanted to make significant job cuts they could axed Eddie and Bert. Both have no real use to Nine. And after what Eddie did to Nine in 2007, he should have been axed ages ago.
