Fringe wins full season

Channel Nine's new sci fi acquisition just won another 9 episodes from FOX.

Australian actors Anna Torv and John Noble have just been given the thumbs up with news that FOX has picked up a full-season order of J.J. Abrams’ Fringe.

The sci fi thriller wins an additional 9 episodes taking it to 22.

After a so-so premiere in the US the show jumped significantly in Week 2 following House -ironically its competition in Australia.

So far it has averaged 10.7 million viewers and as the top new Fall series in adult demographics.

“The series has really taken off creatively, and it’s exciting to see that the audience is responding,” FOX’s entertainment president Kevin Reilly said.

JJ Abrams said, “As with many new series, Fringe is just starting to find its groove. Knowing we’ll be around beyond the first thirteen episodes means we’ll get to realize the full potential of the show, and for that we are extremely grateful.”

Last night the show held 901,000 viewers, beating House, which is roughly where it has been sitting across three weeks. Nine has given the show every assistance, slating more Two and a Half Men as its lead-in at the last minute.

  1. Agree with you Zambora – and JJ’s track record of going off the edge with plot lines worries me. I stayed with Alias to the end – but felt cheated for doing so it got so bad. This one hasn’t started out strong enough for me. I will give it a few more eps still

  2. As long as it stays second in tp and wins the slot in 18-49 i reckon it’s safe. Personally I’d like to see it moved so i could watch it.

  3. The other day I said ch9 would “rest” Fringe before ch10 did like wise with 90210 but look what happened, it’s anyone’s guess as to what ch9 has planned but I hope it stays a I’m liking it so far.

  4. but does this mean 9 will air the whole series? coz 90210 got a full season but 10 axed it, so this is still no guarantee for us here in Oz, i’m still not ready to watch the fringe episodes i have recorded- not until 9 proves me wrong in my skepticism about their committment to this show.

  5. I gave up on the show after last week, with its hoary cliche of the killer who dissects people to stay young. But hey, some people like it I suppose. The prognosis for Fox’s other sci-fi show Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, is, on the other hand, looking terminal:

According to the article, it could be cancelled by the end of this week.

  6. I am finding it much better than LOST … the father/son combination is brilliantly suited to the two actors and the different story every week is good … if they can maintain the growth and change without becoming too lost in their own self-indulgent in-jokes (like LOST has) then it could be a big ongoing success!
