Here’s a programme that’s bound to stick to its airdate of December 31st, 2008.

TEN’s New Year’s Eve 2008 celebrations on Sydney Harbour this year are to be hosted by Andrew G and Kim Watkins.

Performing live onstage are Natalie Bassingthwaighte, Geoffrey Gurrumul Yunupingu, The Presets, Jessica Mauboy and Wes Carr.

Jason Coleman will choreograph the opening number while the early fireworks are to be counted down by upcoming Bondi Vet presenter Dr Chris Brown.

The family fireworks screen at 8.30-9.30 and it’s 11.30-12.30 for the midnight fireworks.

An explosive line-up of this year’s most successful home-grown music acts will perform at the ultimate New Year’s Eve celebration, the Lord Mayor’s Party, live from Sydney Harbour and broadcast exclusively on TEN.

Australian Idol’s Andrew G and 9am presenter Kim Watkins preside over the main celebrations, bringing all of the action and anticipation along with a string of surprises live to your living room. Plus Bondi Vet’s Dr Chris Brown will lead the countdown to the early family fireworks from the Botanical Gardens.

Headlining the main stage, Natalie Bassingthwaighte will perform her new single Someday Soon as well as current smash hit Alive. Heralded the most important Aboriginal voice of his generation, and big winner at this year’s ARIA and AIR Awards, Geoffrey Gurrumul Yunupingu is set to deliver an un-missable performance.

Meanwhile multi-ARIA award winning electro group The Presets top off an incredible year by belting out chart topper My People, rising star Jessica Mauboy makes a special appearance with Burn from her smash debut album Been Waiting and Australian Idol champion Wes Carr brings his unique style and sound to the stage with a performance of newly released winners single You.

So You Think You Can Dance Australia’s resident judge Jason Coleman will choreograph the opening performance, setting the tone for the biggest party night of the year.

With thousands gathered around two of Australia’s most iconic landmarks, the Harbour Bridge and the Sydney Opera House, viewers are awarded the best seat in the house for the legendary fireworks that mark the culmination of this amazing celebration.

  2. Bump the fireworks altogether. No one outside Sydney is interested and they are as boring as bat poop anyway. The networks’ approach to NY programming is childish in the extreme.

  3. Who wants to watch the Sydney fireworks anyway.

    Why can’t Melbourne get Melbourne, Brisbane get Brisbane, Adelaide get Adelaide, Perth get Perth, so on.

    Just extend the Livinia Nixon and Not John So coverage for an hour (this is Melb), who cares about Sydney.

  8. Ch 10 are only going to show the one episode of this after a poor response,with the first installment, from a test audience. The remainder of the NYE episodes are likely to end up in a 10.30 slot sometime during January. PayTV have complained to the regulators that ch10 are not showing this live.

  9. If I remember last yrs NYE Party with Kim was a huge success. The line up this yr looks amazing!!! kim is a very talanted lady who knows her stuff so we will not be bored host wise:)

  13. Thankgod theres something on… I have no plans for NYE and Im glad The Presets, Jess Mauboy and Wes Carr are performing.. Im hope Wes doesnt sing ‘You’ though..

  16. Woo, Presets! Shame about the Mauboy/Carr cross-promotion but that’s mild compared with the Big Brother cross-promotions that Ten did the first time they got the fireworks.

    I wonder if David Reyne is jealous that Kim got a hosting gig and he didn’t?

  17. David, for once I am actually wishing Ten to make a timeslot change. Just bump the fireworks so we in Queensland can see it live… not on a hours delay, or even better, someone should screen the Brissie NYE fireworks…
