Former Nickelodeon Australia head Karen Flischel died recently after a long battle with cancer.

“In her relatively short time in Australia she made a huge impact and was an inspiration to so many of us,” her former PA Lizzie Trevan told Mediaweek. “I loved and respected her dearly and saw few who could match her CEO abilities and the wonderful loyalty she earned. She had such a beautiful heart, I will miss her always.”

Another former colleague is Will Usic who said: “Karen was one of the most inspirational people I’ve had the privilege to know. Karen started her career as a quality checker with Nickelodeon, when the channel was in its infancy in the US. Sixteen years later she headed up the Nickelodeon Australia startup team in 1995 when Foxtel launched.

“Karen then went on to become head of Nickelodeon Worldwide. After an illustrious career with Nick, Karen then headed up the launch of Oxygen, a women’s channel in the US. She will be sadly missed.”
