ASTRA Awards 2009: Nominees

Project Runway Australia, Australia's Next Top Model, The Merrick and Rosso Show, Gossip Girl, Entourage and Grand Designs all feature in this year's Pay TV award nods.

kristy_henry1The Subscription Television industry this morning gathered to hear the names of the 2009 ASTRA Awards, the seventh year in which it has recognised its own. Mike Hammond announced the nominations with co-presenters Matt Shirvington, Lee Furlong and Yumi Stynes. The LifeStyle Channel’s, Bill Granger hosted.

Prominent in the awards were shows such as Project Runway Australia, Australia’s Next Top Model, The Merrick and Rosso Show, Stuart McGill Uncorked, and personalities including Kristy Hinze, Jimmy Barnes, Merrick and Rosso, Ruby Rose, Antonia Kidman and Charlotte Dawson.

In the international category viewers’ top picks include Gossip Girl, Entourage, Project Runway, Hannah Montanah and Grand Designs.

The industry-voted nominees see other shows include Satisfaction, Stupid Stupid Man, Make or Break, An Aussie Goes Bolly, The Spirit Of Australian Sports and Beyond Kokoda. 2008 was a relatively light year for locally produced drama, with shows like Satisfaction airing on premium channels that could have hindered chances in the popular categories. By contrast TV1’s Stupid Stupid Man made the favourite programme list.

Subscribers can vote via www.astraawards.com or digital channel 222 available across all platforms. The public voting for the ‘Favourite’ categories opens at 2pm Wednesday 25 March and closes at midnight on Wednesday 15 April.

The winners will be announced on Monday April 20th.

  1. By the looks of it I’m not missing much by not having cable TV… One third of the awards are for marketing/commercials too! Sheesh who wants to pay for more commercials.
