The United Nations honours the SciFi series with an esteemed panel discussion at its New York headquarters.

Whoopi Goldberg is to host a discussion on Battlestar Galactica to be held at the United Nations in New York City.

The discussion, on March 17th, will examine issues raised on the show including “human rights, children and armed conflict, terrorism, reconciliation and dialogue among civilisations and faith.”

The panel will consist of executive producers Ronald D. Moore and David Eick, as well as stars Mary McDonnell (who plays president Laura Roslin on the show) and Edward James Olmos (Admiral William Adama). UN representatives on the panel are Radhika Coomaraswamy, special representative of the Secretary-General for Children and Armed Conflict; Craig Mokhiber, deputy director of the New York office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights; and Robert Orr, assistant secretary-general for policy planning, executive office of the Secretary-General.

The invitation-only panel will take place three days before the Sci Fi show’s series finale while the Sci Fi Network (US) will record the session and a transcript will be made.

“Once the content becomes available, we will let the fans know,” a representative said.

The show concludes in Australia on Sci Fi on March 21st.

  1. So the show finishes on March 21st? Looks like I’ll be going back through the series and starting over with the pilot on March 22nd 🙂

  2. This is just a quid pro quo relationship Matthew. Much like the UNHCR using Angelina Jolie, George Clooney and the like to highlight the plight of refugees in the world.
It is important that these issues are highlighted and celebrities are a good way to do it. As for BSG being over rated I don’t agree with you there either but can understand why you might think so.
