Nine is about to go in hard against Seven’s football plans by pitting a television premiere of the movie Happy Feet against AFL’s Round 1 matches.
The hit movie will air at 7:30pm on Friday March 27th in Melbourne against Seven’s AFL match between Hawthorn v Geelong.
Sydney and Brisbane viewers will see a repeat of the Heath Ledger flick Lords of Dogtown while the animated penguin flick will be screened the following night against TEN /ONE’s St Kilda v Sydney Swans match.
Melbourne has the Anne Hathaway film Hoodwinked on Saturday 28th March.
The AFL Footy Show will also air at 9:30pm Wednesday March 25 ahead of the first match on Thursday, replaced by a 90min repeat of CSI: Miami on March 26.

Are you suggesting Hawthorn v Geelong will be on at 7.30? I’ll believe it when I see it…
Happy feet is a boring film. Casino Royale only managed 1.2mill so I don’t think Happy Feet will get much higher.
That picture is funny for the article. LMAO, Nice one!
How embrassing for the footy fans.
Happy Feet vs AFL in Sydney. Happy Feet will win.
Swans could only get 19,000 to their semi-final. No one cares about aerial ping pong.
Haven’t seen Happy Feet before so might watch it – or at least from 8pm due to new Simpsons. AFL = uber boredom.
i don’t really see how they are competing, no one who watches football would want to watch happy feet and no one who would watch happy feet was going to watch the football. perhaps the only conflict comes where the kids and dad are fighting over the one tv. it’ll just mean more people watching tv rather than a finite audience being split up.
Oh no how will Australian football ever stand up to the might of an uber happy CGI penguin!?
Hoodwinked is a funny film! Better than Happy Feet anyway
Sydney and Brisbane have a rugby league doubleheader on the night of Friday March 27 (Titans v Bulldogs and Wests Tigers v Sydney Roosters) so I assume that Lords of Dogtown will be shown in those cities after the matches.
