Rafters finale tops 2 million

Rafters hits a new high for the year as viewers were drawn to see Julie & Dave juggle the news of a surprise pregnancy.

rfinalePacked to the Rafters cracked the 2million barrier for its final episode last night, its best figure this year.

Viewers were drawn to seeing how Julie and Dave Rafter would deal with the news from the previous week of a surprise pregnancy.

The episode focussed on the couple coming to terms with the medical repercussions of proceeding with the pregnancy, versus the (TV) controversy of termination.

Eventually the good-hearted pair decided to keep the baby.

“What’s life about if not taking risks?” asked Julie. “Jumping in with both feet and seeing what happens.”

Indeed. It’s a lesson for television executives too. Hit shows only come about when writers, producers and execs take risks with production.

The episode also looked at the torrid relationship between Ben and Melissa. By the end of the episode all was right with their feelgood world.

Rafters has been a shining hit for Seven, winning every Tuesday network share when it has been screened. Now Seven moves All Saints to the 8:30pm slot, creating opportunities for rival programmers.

The 2.03m figure for Rafters will not be enough to topple Underbelly this week. Despite the Nine drama having its lowest audience for S2 at 2.07m it will surely still take out the week as the #1 show.

Rafters will return to Seven later this year.

  1. I like this show but – meh – the pregnancy thing seems to be a shark jumping moment as one of your readers alluded to previously. I just want her to fall down the stairs and end it all ASAP.

  2. I knew it, this ‘pregnancy’ theme – No suprise to me, it’s the same thing as AG. The characterization looks either worn out or sweaty-looking. Doing the same thing over and over does not interest me greatly.

  3. Although PTTR sometimes gets a bit too cliched, I’m completely hooked and can’t wait for it to return. Last night’s episode was nice and deserved of its ratings. But I’m sure the 7 fanboys will be dissappointed that it did not beat Underbelly’s lowest-rating episode thus far.

  4. well deserved. i’d say it’s australia’s best home made show ever. it’s suprising that it took so many years for someone to have a serious shot at a family drama. it just seems like such an obvious success idea while all the crime/cop/action/medical shows failed.
