  1. There is no doubt that Adam has incredible vocal range and is very talented; however, I found Adam irritating. With the exception of his Tears For Fears’ song, all of his performances seemed to be the same to me and he was very predictable. He seemed incapable of performing a song without the inevitable wail and his facial distortions totally put me off. I remember “country night” and rather than stick to the genre, Adam did an Egyptian type performance which totally put me off, while everyone else stayed with the genre even though for many it wasn’t their style.

His performances were too over the top and very “broadway” to me and somewhat calculating. Everyone I know who follows A.I. all admitted that they thought Adam was fantastic but preferred listening to him versus watching him. Nobody cared that he was gay. In addition, most viewers don’t like a contestant being pimped to the degree he was pimped. Viewers like to see progression and diversity. I didn’t vote until the final night and I think there were a lot of viewers out there who wait until the final to vote. Kris totally won me over with his “Heartless” performance and I also prefer musicians. I think of them as being more artistic. Kris was a very likeable guy and he clearly is talented. I got a sense of what his music would be like once he put out an album and I think his style is more radio friendly and has a general mass appeal, while Adam’s style, or at least what I saw on A.I. would not appeal to the average person. Who needs another Freddy Mercury or another Elvis.

  2. I don’t like Kris’ chances log term especially because his win was seen as controversial. It usually backfires. If all those homophobes in US stayed away from voting and let public decide who they prefer most all this conversation would be about the talent not politics. Adam should be laughing all they way to the bank.

  3. Adam is smart in not confirming his sexuality, as shown by his post-finale interview with EW.

And just as a matter of interest, both Kris’s and Adam’s versions of ‘No Boundaries’ have been released on iTunes in North America; do you think the producers would be silly enough not to release Adam’s version? LOL. I wouldn’t be surprised if Adam’s version outsells Kris’, seeing Adam’s songs during the season have outsold Kris’ by a fairly wide margin (it was accidentally revealed halfway through the season I think and widely reported). IMHO, Kris’ version is better, but boring, and Adam’s is more dynamic and rangy but not as ‘clean’.

As for Adam’s huge range, his ‘screeching’ did indeed put a lot of people off, but others – like me – like that sort of thing. If you’ve got it, you use it, especially in a competition where big notes wins votes. He demonstrated his ability to hold it back in songs like ‘Mad World’ and ‘Track Of My Tears’, so people who only equate his singing with screaming have ignored his singing ability.

What surprised me is that VFTW decided to back Kris, obviously because Adam was way too pimped out by everyone on the show.

  4. Really don’t agree Dan! 100 million votes can’t be from just teenagers and tweens! Have you been to America? They are alot less tolerant! American Idol fanbase is very broad and I feel unfortunately this (due to homophobia) has hurt Adam. I was personally in love with Poison and Bon Jovi who were very Glam when I was 12! Even if you were 12 you can’t suggest what they all think, at that age! He won Good Luck to Kris!

  5. When trying to understand the vote, think of the crowds shown during the hometown visits. They seemed to be 90% 10-12 year old girls. Which one of the contestants was the more likely to win the devotion of such teenie boppers– the glam/goth Adam or the aw shucks cutie Kris?
Politicized people are not voting, little girls with crushes are– dozens of times over, as permitted by the rules.
To blame the outcome on homophobia is to misunderstand the American Idol fan base.

  6. Okay – had little media last week as had a baby! Just seen photos!! Could definately of had negative impact on him from the redneck voters, unfortunately! For me makes him more of an enigma! Looking forward to his bright future!

  7. How do we know Adam is gay! Is it speculation, or is he out and proud?? Just curious! He must be though because I fancy the hell out of him!!! Just a shame the best performer didn’t win – like last years Michael Johns saga! By the way,FYI Michael Johns on Ellen this week!!

  8. I am not suprised that Kris won. He had consistant rounds where as Adam had a few shockers.
Adam lost me when he sang that bizarre song during country week.

  9. Craig F (and others) if there was an anti-gay vote, how did Adam avoid the bottom three till the last few weeks? The fact of the matter is voters form their views pretty much as soon as the top 12 (or 13 for this season) is formed and as people get voted off they redirect their preferences – a bit like Australia’s voting system. Sure, there will definitely be some people who didn’t like Adam because he’s gay but I doubt this view was formed at the last minute. Just realise Kris won fair and square under the rules.

  10. adam will get a deal for sure so the result really is redundant in my opinion.

Adam is a fantastic performer but i personally prefer that more acoustic feel and singer/songwriter vibe that kris has. both will have very different albums and very different markets so will probably do very well.
