Andrew G hints at Idol format changes

Andrew G dropped a few hints about two the changes to Idol borrowing ideas from 2 other TV shows.

angOk so we know there’s no James Mathison on Australian Idol this year. But what about that “other” format change that’s coming?

On the Logies Red Carpet, Andrew G. dropped a few hints to TV Tonight.

“I can’t tell you. It’s a massive change. Colossal. I can’t tell you,” he insisted.

“If you’ve watched UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) and you’ve watched MasterChef, we’re borrowing a bit from both.”

UFC is a mixed martial arts contest that pits professional boxers, sumo wrestlers, karate, jiu jitsu, kickboxers and more in unmatched fights.

Meanwhile this week MasterChef offered one contestant a challenge that would have seen them skip the forthcoming weeks and fastrack to the final week of the competition.

Who knows if these are what Idol is planning?

  1. @ slydoggie: if the Monday show is dropped, how will the elimination process work?
Time difference between WA and east coast during the series (could be 3 hours, depending on the result of the upcoming WA referendum on daylight saving) mean WA viewers will have much less time to vote to save their favourite contestants.

  2. Other than adopting a few changes already used in the US there really aren’t any “huge” changes they can make to the format. They have had the same problem trying to push for changes to the show in previous years. Unless 19 have drastically changed their tune it is likely just to be duets and judge’s save.

  3. I hated last years elimination process. Worst thing ever to happen on TV. Whats the point of voting on Sunday Night, if the voting lines open for another half hour of Monday Night? Pointless and dumb.

  4. last nite on American Idol the final four also sung in duets which was a fresh new change for the show.

American Idol has also introduced this year the ‘Judges save’ where the judges can overrule the publics decision and save someone from being eliminated. This means howevere that two people go the next week.

I’d say that these two changes are likely to be incorporated this year into Oz idol…
