Cancelled: The Unit, Sam Who, According to Jim.

But My Name is Earl and Medium may head to new homes.

unitMore news of cancelled shows to emerge from the US includes The Unit and According to Jim (it made it this far because?).

Medium has been dropped by NBC but is still a possibility of heading to CBS. Maybe Patricia Arquette can forsee her fate?

FOX may also pick up My Name is Earl, which was also let go.

ABC cancelled Samantha Who, after the show couldn’t slash its budget deep enough to make a third-season pickup work.

Networks are currently revealing their Fall slates, which sees ABC offering a new two-hour comedy block on Wednesdays with Hank, The Middle, Modern Family and Cougar Town starring Courtney Cox.

ABC also promises Flash Forward in which everybody in the world has a vision of their lives six months into the future. Since presumably the entire series wouldn’t cover only six months, ABC entertainment president Steve McPherson said producers have already pitched how the show will carry past its first season.

“It has an extensive multi-season arc,” he said. “They’ve pitched me the last scene from this year … each season has its own cycle.”

For Grey’s Anatomy fans, McPherson also confirmed Katharine Heigl and T.R. Knight have signed again.

“They’re both signed on, I can’t say whether they will both be there,” he joked.

Meanwhile NBC will “split” its Fall shows into two seasons because of the Winter Olympics.

  1. The Unit – thanks for a compelling show, something we looked forward to staying up watching every week. Pls do not replace with yet another repelling “forensics” or such. The Unit was refreshing, without the glitter.

Damn shame to see it go.

Thanks for the entertainment guys, enjoyable to the last.

  2. Why in the world would you take the unit off the air? This is one of the best shows I have seen in along time. I am very dissapointed to see that it has gone off the air. Please bring it back. I personally know many people that love it!

  3. without a trace is canned…
    the unit is canned….

the perfect time to bring Now and Again back for its second season considering Eric Close and Dennis Haysbert are now free again at the same time! 🙂

  4. I also enjoy According To Jim. It is really funny, though I think it was just about time for it to go as it has had a good run. I just wish that Seven would give it a nice stable timeslot for the new episodes.

  5. I liked According to Jim and Samantha Who. Guess I have a liking for shows which get axed. (Eli Stone, My Own Worst Enemy, Firefly to name a few)
Thx god that 24, House, Bones & NCIS are still running.

Cougar Town sounds like a copy of Desperate Housewives.
Enough already with all the Celebrity reality trash & the sex obsessed tv programs.

  6. Also CBS has renewed Numb3rs and cancelled Without A Trace and Eleventh Hour, both due to poor US ratings and renewed the mediocre, unfunny sitcoms How I Met Your Mother, Gary Unmarried, Rules of Engagement and Old Christine.

  7. Shame about Earl being canceled. It was still a pretty good show. I hope FOX pick it up, but it may already have syndication potential as it is.

It also looks like Eleventh Hour and Without a Trace got canceled as well. So many announcement to keep track of.

  8. I for one (at possibly the only one?) liked According To Jim. I just wish Channel Seven would play out the last season. They just finished the 2008 season, and now they’re repeating it? Can’t they show new episodes instead?

  9. im amazed according to jim has had such a run! To be honest, I’m not disappointed the unit is being canned – I never liked it – it was too 50/50…….50% home drama, 50% action. One scene with the guys doing what they do, the next scene with the wives back home getting into a flap over what school to send the kids.

  10. I do hope CBS picks up Medium; it remains a very high quality show that is willing to take some risks otherwise rare in American FTA drama.

As for Flash Forward, the producers of that one should beware McPherson’s trumpeting of an “extensive multi-season arc”. This man killed Pushing Daisies and Eli Stone, remember.

  11. I hope ABC runs out the few remaining Samantha Who? eps later this month, shame it has gone.

Interesting that Katharine Heigl and T.R. Knight are back next season given this seasons final…

And it’s amazing if so many hated According to Jim why did it last so long? I guess ch7 will have eps to so for a while as they are way behind…
