Time to go, Poh

Popular contestant Poh Ling Yeow has left MasterChef and looking forward to returning to her other love, painting.

poh1Popular contestant Poh Ling Yeow saw her run in MasterChef Australia come to an end last night, following a wedding catering challenge.

Poh said: “I am very sad to leave. It’s made me realise how much I love food and I’m ready to be obsessed by it.

“For some reason it felt like my time to go. I’ve felt quite torn not being able to paint being here – But the reason I came here because I was drawn to the food industry to a point that it was distracting me in my painting. They are two things that I love.”

Poh said she was going straight to her mum’s house after leaving the MasterChef house.

“I need to write down all her recipes that she’s made since I was a child and that is something that is incredibly important to me.”

The show continues to surge for TEN, with another 1.8m viewers on Wednesday, the top show for the night.

  1. 🙁 I was really sad to see Poh go. Any chance that there’s going to be a wildcard round of sorts done like on The Biggest Loser, Australian Idol and some other shows? XD

  2. still cant believe poh left she was a great cook think all she needed to work on was not cracking under pressure that was her only weak point
i dont think chris should of got credit for the desert that he did but then again he was helping a lot of the other contestants

  3. The majority of reality programs are guilty of rigging the competition so more likeable or interesting competitors make it further.

This was not the case with MasterChef. MasterChef is fairly entertaining but the sweet good nature of Poh is what made the programme a full package. Without her I planned to stop watching and now it’s happened and sure enough I doubt I’ll tune in again.

  4. I reckon it’s horrible she’s gone, especially right before they went to Hong Kong. She would have thrived there!

I reckon it was unfair that during the wedding challenge she was just getting constantly told off rather than be told anything encouraging. Come on! She had not had any sleep what so ever, and to pull of what they pulled off was pretty demanding. And it’d just make it worse when she gets told off and taken her away from work constantly to be told off.

  5. I think it was inevitable that she wasn’t going to win the series, and she was going to leave the show sometime before the finale. Most of the others are clearly better at handling the pressures of a busy restaurant than she was able to within the show.

But her expertise at cooking was obvious, and she certainly has a promising career in food ahead of her.

I was a little miffed at how the others expressed their disappointment at Sam’s survival. It was a bit rude of them to tell him that, too.

  6. Sad to see her go. Over the past few weeks, after falling in after another long day at the office, there was this very attractive woman with an amazing smile that just lit up her face that was very infectious. Hard pressed to feel down yourself after seeing that. Was disapointed at the sneer from the 2 clowns when she said her dream was to open an asian influenced noodle / dumpling bar. Tell more than a billion Chinese that that is no dream. Just miffed I suppose because they couldnt then pass off bleeding steak on mashed potato or undercooked chicken as haute cuisine. I have had some great meals down in Chinatown and Gouger St here in Adelaide. I am sure if that is what she decides to do, it will do well and I really hope to see it open soon.

  7. Unfortunately Poh cracked under the pressure (and lack of sleep), but she has cracked under the pressure before.

However, the work she did on the cake was excellent and I reckon she would do well in fancy cakes and deserts – something that take a lot of time and need an artist’s expertise.
