ABC announces Head of Strategy & Governance

As it looks to the increasing importance of broadband with television, ABC announces a new appointment.

abc2_logoABC sure has been busy in the personnel department this week. Following the hiring of a new Commissioning Editor, and a reshuffle of roles in Children’s Television, now it appoints Michael Brealey as Head of Strategy & Governance from Monday August 10.

The appointment is part of the broadcaster’s nod to the importance of broadband to the future of digital television.

Brealey has been Vodafone Australia’s Manager Public Policy and Content Standards, responsible for developing Vodafone’s content and service compliance framework.

Prior to Vodafone, he was involved in broadcast policy development in the Department of Communications, Information Technology and the Arts, and as an advisor on broadcasting for Senator Richard Alston.

ABC’s Kim Dalton, said: “Australia is poised to move into an era where free-to-air television and broadband services will converge. Michael’s background is broadcasting and telecommunications will assist the ABC to play a leading role in this development,” he said.

Michael Brealey said “I am very excited to be joining the ABC at such an important juncture for broadcasting in Australia. The ABC has been a leader in the development of digital broadcasting in Australia, and as the national broadcaster will continue to play a vital role in the converging media environment.”

ABC’s slogan is aptly: “We Have Vision.”
