Hey Hey it’s Tuesday

After ten years off air, Hey Hey will return to Australian television for two live reunion shows but not on the night which made it famous.

heyhey1Hey Hey its Saturday is coming back to television.

TV Tonight can reveal Nine will bring the variety back for two live shows, on a Tuesday night, away from its traditional Saturday night.

The move is designed to undermine strong programming by rival networks. The show is being trialled to see how well it is performs, with a view to a renewed series.

It is likely to return in early October, just short of ten years off air.

Cast are being approached for the specials although more recently both Red Symons and Molly Meldrum have been regular Seven personalities.

Hey Hey’s return will follow a recent fan revival via a Facebook petition and viewer poll on the Today show. Co-creator and host Daryl Somers is known to have been eager for the show to return for some time.

Nearly two years ago when he was with Seven it was reported that the network had declined proposals to revive the show.

Last year there were also reports of exploratory talks with David Gyngell.

This week Somers told ABC Radio the show’s return is “not out of the question” and speculated that one or two reunion specials could be made in the near future.

Hey Hey its Saturday enjoyed an extraordinary 27 year run on Australian television, making household names out of such characters as Dickie Knee, Plucka Duck, its zany segments including Red Faces and cemented the status of Ossie Ostritch.

  1. well they ran 10 minutes of ads on Sunday night during 60 minutes and last night they ran 3 eps of Two and a Half Men. It seems like just another bad decision by the 3rd floor over at Artarmon Rd. It may get a sentimental viewing but thats about it.

  2. I say the current offerings we have on TV is rubbish. And Hey Hey cant do any worse in fact it should be a improvement. The fact is in the last few years the TV shows that the networks have been giving us is garbage. Too much reality and too much CSI.

The fact is the 70’s, and 80’s tv shows were the best and they don’t make it like that anymore. So maybe now it is time to go back to real TV.

  3. Well it’s about time. We’ve had no family shows on TV for ten years. This show appeals to all ages, young kids, teenagers, people in their 20’s, 30’s and 40’s….mums, dads and even grandparents…. Can’t wait to be entertained again on a Satrurday night……

  4. Actually I wouldn’t mind Wonderworld Returning Here’s an Idea that might go down well for those of you with School Age Children But the Bold and the Beautiful Fans will hate it and that is along with Catriona Rowntree and some new hosts Sell It to Channel 10 and show it after School at 4:30pm like they used to back in the Eighties. Finally something that is family friendly

  5. So sad that some people (and Nine) think this is what television should be in 2009. Oh Hum.Could we have the full and real names of the people who actuallly requested this ? (the name Daryl Somers does not count).

  6. Can’t wait for the specials (and hopefully regular shows) but please, not on Tuesdays – It’s gotta be Saturdays! Bring back good ol’ fashion variety shows!!
