So what happened to Chas’ sketch on the Morans?

Did a scuffle that broke out during the filming of The Chaser cause a sketch to be dropped from the ABC comedy?

chasOn the day before The Chaser returned to screen after its suspension, ABC publicity touted that its return would include a sketch where: “Chas works through his Moran family hit list to find the new kingpin of the Melbourne underworld.”

But, aside from one line referring to the death of one of the Moran clan, the sketch didn’t surface in the episode.

Now news has emerged that there was an incident during the shooting of a Moran sketch involving the Chaser team.

The Courier-Mail today claims ‘a reporter and cameraman from The Chaser’s War On Everything allegedly were punched when they door-stopped a Melbourne resident with the surname Moran.’

The crew apparently enquired as to whether the “Mr Moran” they had contacted would be taking over running the family business. The man is said to be unrelated to the late Desmond Moran.

“There was a brief incident involving a resident who took exception to being filmed by what he thought was a news crew, however, once the resident realised the crew was from The Chaser, he apologised,” an ABC spokesman told the newspaper.

“The (Moran) sketch didn’t make it to air because the episode it was scheduled for was too long,” the ABC spokesman said, adding it will not appear in any future episodes.

Police were not involved, but maybe a few ABC execs were….

  1. The Chaser make some edgy comedy routines (the best kind imho) and people act all shocked. Michael Jackson does a rock-spider routine with some kids, yet people fall over each other to sing his praises.

As Alexei would say, it’s a funny old world.

  2. The Chaser crew should learn from Working Dog and stop a project while people are wanting more. Then take time to reinvent themselves then entertain the public in another way.

  3. Too long? Have they been watching the show the last couple of weeks? Some of those skits needed to be cut in half – the phone dating, vatican skits etc. I would have left it in with the other unfunny skits….zzzzz

  4. So the sketch was based around finding someone whose last name is Moran and yelling some heavily scripted ‘comedic’ insults at them? How hilarious. Could the ABC just cancel this tired show already and spend the money on something innovative?

  5. “The (Moran) sketch didn’t make it to air because the episode it was scheduled for was too long,”

But it wont be in any other episodes. . . what about online as special features
