Toni Collette Emmy tip for Tara role

If Toni Collette lands an Emmy nomination for United States of Tara it would certainly be good timing for the ABC.

United_States_of_Tara-152If Toni Collette lands an Emmy nomination for United States of Tara it would certainly be good timing for the ABC, which picked up the series to air Wednesday 29th July at 9.30pm.

This week we’ll know if she lands a chance in the run for Lead Actress in a Comedy Series -yes that’s right Comedy. It’s a better fit for Drama if you ask me, but similarly Desperate Housewives has traditionally been lumped in the same category. The LA Times reckons she and Tina Fey are the only two dead certain names for their category.

The other ‘maybe’s’ include Christina Applegate (Samantha Who?), America Ferrera, (Ugly Betty), Julia Louis-Dreyfus, (New Adventures of Old Christine), Mary-Louise Parker (Weeds) and Amy Poehler (Parks and Recreation).

“Toni Collette gave an acclaimed performance as a woman with multiple personalities, so Emmy voters should eat that up,” says one critic.

This year the Emmys have expanded their major categories to a shortlist of 6 -which at least is way shorter than the 10 the Oscars want for Best Film. Aren’t our ceremonies long enough already?

ABC picked up the series after Showtime apparently didn’t warm to the series.

  1. I’m not sure I understand – I thought UST was renewed for a second season on Showtime back in February just a few weeks after the first episode premiered? Or is ABC just replaying the episodes?

Either way, congrats to Toni. She is a fantastic actress and I hope she wins! Tina Fey is hilarious too, but she’s had enough Emmy glory to last her for a long long time.

  2. It’s weird Showcase didn’t want this gem but yay for FTA with ABC2 getting it. I hope Toni wins.

BTW David any news if or when Seven with Samantha Who? back, which is airing it’s final 2 eps on the 23rd in the US.
