Denzel Washington to produce cop drama

FOX is eyeing a new drama about a genius gang member-turned-cop, with Denzel Washington as executive producer.

denzel washingtonDenzel Washington could return to television, at least in a producer role, as executive producer on a new police drama Billy Stiles.

Washington, who got his start in St. Elsewhere, is expected to produce alongside writer Virgil Williams (24, ER).

FOX is in talks to pick up the project, that follows a genius gang member-turned-cop.

The series was originally developed as a cable series but was later reworked as a network show and taken to FOX, with Washington on board for the pitch. That couldn’t hurt.

More and more film actors are turning to television, not just in on screen roles, but in producer roles too such as Washington’s. DesiLu anyone?

  1. In the last ten years or so, television has become more cinematic, with single camera shows managing to afford to attempt previously movie-only techniques and visual effects.

The budgets have gone up, but the quality level has drawn the movie actors.

They may get paid more, too, depending on the scale they’re used to from films. I imagine if Bruce Willis went back to TV he wouldn’t get the many millions a year he’s used to, and would have to work more of the year. But someone on the, say, Elijah Wood scale of things might get a pretty decent paypacket out of a popular TV series.
