Multiview to track Pay TV

Multiview will track info on time shift viewing, high definition channels, interactive services and video on demand.

iQHDNew Pay TV data research platform Multiview will begin by the end of the year, tracking information on time shift viewing, high definition channels, interactive services and video on demand services.

Multiview, an independent organisation owned by Multichannel Network (MCN), will see data collected directly from 10,000 set top boxes.

Being pitched as a “complementary” service alongside current OzTAM and RegTAM ratings data, currently measuring 1250 homes, it promises to offer more extensive data of how viewers watch their subscription TV.

TNS Media Research has been awarded a three year contract to run Multiview. Ian Garland, who will be leading Multiview Analytics, said: “Our partnership marks our commitment to gain new insights into the viewing and behaviour of audiences in subscription TV homes. In addition, the services will provide greater accountability to advertisers across our platforms in areas such as target audiences and interactive advertising.”

  1. Paul – Foxtel already has ratings like FTA. You will find programmes moved, encored etc every now and again when something doesn’t work. Every channel does it, just some more than others

  2. ITA if Austar can re-set my box remotely surely they know which channel it’s on at any time, it’s a much better system to work out who is watching what and for how long. Pity they can’t do the same for FTA.

  3. Any ideas how this will work? Will the data be collected by the IQ’s and returned to foxtel via their regular phone calls home or is it a completely separate box that will be given to selected customers?

  4. “an independent organisation owned by Multichannel Network (MCN)”

    And who owns MCN?

Let’s see at their web site…

“MCN was formed in 1997 and today is owned by Foxtel, Austar, Premier Media Group and XYZ Networks.”

So in other words, just like OzTam, another provider of TV services collating ratings on itself.

Sorry, that’s not independent. That’s marketing.
