Rescue Me signals end

Dennis Leary's firefighter drama will end with the 10th anniversary of September 11 in 2011 -the event that inspired it.

rescuemeDennis Leary and the New York firefighters of Rescue Me will conclude their show in 2011, to coincide with the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks that inspired the show.

The drama, which airs in the US on FX, has been running since 2004. It will air ten episodes next year and nine the year after.

Rescue Me‘s focus has always been on New York City firefighters and the post-9/11 trauma they face. That focus was renewed this season, as one fireman spoke out about the terrorist attacks being a government conspiracy, while another battled cancer believed to have been caused by exposure at the World Trade Centre site.

While the show’s fifth-season finale airs in the US on Tuesday, Rescue Me has aired on FOX8 in Australia.

  1. Australian tv programmers are blind and stupid to let this show go virtually unseen in Australia.

We get endless mindless crap shoved at us in the form or 3rd rate so called reality shows made up of hosts that berate other people on the show all for personnel glory. While miss out on some of the best tv ever made in the form of Rescue Me …

No wonder I have virtually turned of free to air Australian TV.

Australian TV is Shocking at best these days!

  2. RM is another great show that has got the raw end in Australia. Think Foxtel screened season four last year. Cant wait for current season 5. Australia being so far behind with these shows we have plenty to look forward to over the next few years eg. the last season of the Shield, season 5 of Nip Tuck, season 6 of L Word. Also Curb Your Enthusiasm season 7. The Office etc etc.
