Nine News adds lunchtime online bulletin

Nine News combines with Ninemsn to produce a daily 10 minute bulletin online everyday.

AlisonL_12Channel Nine has combined with Ninemsn to launch a 10 minute news bulletin, Ninemsn Newsroom, to screen online everyday at 12:30pm.

The bulletin, designed to bring news to workers at their desk, launched today.

Covering news, entertainment, sport, finance and weather, it streams live at 12.30pm AEST each weekday at ninemsn.com.au.

Nine News boss, Mark Calvert, said: “This is great news for the millions of hard-working Australians who are stuck in the office without a TV. It’s an easy way for them to keep in touch with the day’s news. And one of the great things about Ninemsn Newsroom is that our viewers won’t even have to stop working on their computers. They can be watching the show in a window while they’re still doing emails or whatever, so even the toughest bosses in the country should love it.”

Ninemsn said a recent survey of 4000 users showed that nearly 50% of people prefer to jump online at lunchtime between 12pm and 2pm, two-thirds of people surveyed eat lunch at their desks at least once a week whilst 46% of people surveyed eat lunch at their desks at least three days a week.

Nine also produces a daily in-flight bulletin for Qantas.

  1. i would think it would be more convenient to just read the news on sites like the heraldsun, that way you can just read the stories that interest you, and you can stop and start as you please.

  2. It’s be nice it it wasn’t just a Live version (like they do with the 6PM bulletin)… It should be a podcast so we can tune in whenever we like, not just at the time they have determined for us – I guess this just proves that commercial TV stations still haven’t evolved to on-demand broadcasting.

  3. I’m ‘stuck without a tv at work’ but I certainly have other avenues to get my news during the day. There is millions of places to get up to the minute news from so thanks but no thanx.

  4. I don’t mind it.. I think Allison Langdon is a fantastic presenter and reporter. It’s good to see Nine doing research.. hopefully this pays off for Nine promoting their news brand even more. Although I think they may be wanting to separate from the Nine News brand just using some resources of Nine.

No other Australian news websites really provide a 10 minute bulletin apart from podcasts, so it is good to see Nine do this. But a fantastic and innovative effort overall.

  5. As a 9 to 5er myself, I’ll give Nine News’s offering a go if it’s anything like their 5am (Qantas) bulletin. But if it’s more like their dumbed-down 11am offering, I’ll stick with streaming/iViewing ABC1’s Midday Report…
