Apprentice films ‘Dallas-style’ twists

The Apprentice Australia has filmed "Who Shot JR?"-style multiple endings, with hints that Mark Bouris is watching public reactions before picking his winner.

apprenticeChannel Nine’s Apprentice Australia has filmed multiple endings with potential winners, leaving the show’s finalists guessing as to the outcome.

Like an idea straight out of Dallas‘ famous “Who Shot JR?”, nobody knows who will win the reality series.

In fact even Mark Bouris may not yet know.

TV Tonight understands that Bouris could be watching for reactions from the public before making his decision on who lands a six-figure executive position.

Filming multiple endings is an unusual change of practice by FremantleMedia.

Other shows such as Project Runway Australia, The Biggest Loser and MasterChef Australia all filmed their finales shortly before they aired, in an effort to minimise leaks. Such was the hype surrounding MasterChef that both Julie and Poh gave “winner’ interviews to one newspaper before the episode aired -which famously resulted in the wrong article being published.

Meanwhile, Monday night’s episode of The Apprentice Australia features the unusual case of the disappearing advisor.

Diane Stone, seen as the right hand woman to boss Mark Bouris, begins the episode as usual, watching over one of the two teams in the weekly challenge. But by the time we arrive in the boardroom, she’s vanished.

“Obviously you can see Brad’s assisting me as usual,” Bouris tells his wanna-be Apprentices.

“Unfortunately Diane had to run off and do some errands for me and she will be away for a few days. Jennifer Brown, the General Manager of the Mariott Hotel has kindly offered to sit in the hot seat.”

With this week’s challenge taking place at the Sydney Mariott,  Jennifer Brown had first hand knowledge of how the teams performed.

But in a teaser for next week’s episode, Diane Stone still isn’t back -this time replaced by a second male.

The reality series has improved since its debut with better audience figures and a more confident television performance by Mark Bouris. If Nine is lucky, it just might build towards its finale, likely to take place in the final week of ratings.

  1. I agree – great show! I wasn’t sure what to expect given I loved the US version but Bouris has done a really good job and has some really solid business advice.

  2. By far, the best local version of a reality TV series yet. Smart, slick and clean. But don’t mess with the ending. Whoever is the best person should get the job. This is a case of Nine meddling with a great formula, and trying to tweak it for their own benefit. Just leave it alone and let the show work.

  3. Bouris is excellent and a much more human boss than either Trump or Sugar.
However the decision to film multiple endings is ludicrous, and if proven true, will mean I won’t bother watching any future series.

  4. yeah – im luving this series! it easily holds its own against the original and UK ~ it’s a nice mix of personalities/characters in each team … the girls and guys — they’ve chosen a really good mix — and diane and brad are nice finishing touches ~ i think diane is a bit tuffer than brad tho 🙂

  5. This show has really picked up in the last couple of episodes. Bouris has hit his straps. I think he’s far better than Trump… he actually gives some sound advice as opposed to just being an out and out pr*ck… loving the show.

  6. Oh this will be good, I really like this show, very polished and able to keep the suspense on every show.
I like Diane, I like her better than Brad, hopefully she comes back.
