This week, Dateline has 2 very different reports.
The first looks at people smugglers in Malaysia and the second documents a controversial Islamic comic book series.
Video Journalist Amos Roberts follows a new ‘smugglers’ trail’ via Malaysia which many asylum seekers are now using to avoid a crackdown on people smuggling in Indonesia.
With Australia now concerned that Malaysia is a weak link in its border protection chain, efforts are being stepped up to stop asylum seekers using Malaysia as a jumping-off point in illegal entry to Australia.
Also on Dateline, Nick Lazaredes looks at a newly-created comic book series called ‘The 99’ that’s causing deep divisions within the Muslim community.
While most of the world’s well-known comic book heroes are American, these new comics have new heroes shaped with Islamic values.
It airs 8:30pm Sunday on SBS.
