Killing Time drama series for TV1

TV1 and FremantleMedia will produce a 10 part drama series based on the true story of disgraced lawyer Andrew Fraser.

MelbourneTV1 and FremantleMedia Australia are joining forces for Killing Time, a new 10 part crime drama series based on the true story of disgraced lawyer Andrew Fraser.

In a statement, FMA said, “The series follows the story of Andrew Fraser’s rise from small time lawyer to successfully defending the most infamous criminals this country has ever seen, and then his ultimate downfall and imprisonment for five years in maximum security. His clients included Dennis Allen, Jimmy Krakouer, Alan Bond and those accused of the Walsh Street murders.

“At the top of his game, Fraser commanded a huge salary and lived the dream. But when his cocaine addiction spiralled into a thousand dollar-a-day habit, he lost everything and his life became intertwined with villains, larrikins and soldiers of justice. He was disbarred, discredited, broken financially and his marriage was destroyed. Caged amongst serial killers and psychopaths, Fraser is forced to reflect on where it all went so wrong, and try to salvage his shattered reputation.”

The series has a formidable writing team of Ian David (Blue Murder, 3 Acts of Murder) heads the writing team which includes Mac Gudgeon (Last Ride, Halifax, Stingers) and Katherine Thompson (Satisfaction, Answered by Fire).

FMA Director of Development Jason Stephens will be Executive Producer. Stephens and TV1 both produced The King.

“I’ve been fortunate enough to assemble the A-team for Killing Time. Already the scripts are generating a genuine buzz within the industry. TV1 and I enjoy a unique, creative relationship which paves the way for Killing Time to be something very different to anything that has come before it,” said Stephens.

TV1 CEO, Peter Hudson siad, “This is our biggest production commitment to date and we are delighted to reunite our association with the outstanding production team at FremantleMedia. Killing Time will be the feature production for TV1 and a must see for all STV subscribers in 2010.”

The series was previously under consideration by the Seven Network.

It begins filming in Melbourne in 2010.

  1. I have recently watched the excellent Aust series Killing Time. Last night I watched the Aust movie Animal Kingdom. In that one of the men had 3 black round circles on his shoulder upper arm area. I had recently seen the same thing on a man perhaps in Killing time. I am curious as to what these marks mean. Can any one help.

  2. I was just watching Sea Change and its just hit me again, Australia really dont make location dramas anymore. EEverything is either in the city or the suburbs. What a shame, Australia’s beautiful landscape isn’t shown in hardly any TV dramas.

Luckily we have SBS the Circuit which is set in lovely broome, western Australia. There’s Underbelly a Tale of two cities which feautured some nice locations but they are the only two I can name.

  3. lets see the difference in response between when it was announced as coming to 7 (which was mainly negative) to now when it’s going to another network.

i think it sounds good. but first spirited now this. how long does it take to get the ball rolling on dramas these days. 2 dramas that start filming over 12 months after announced.

  4. Its very good to see a channel like TV1(not owned by foxtel) producing some local content, seeing that 13th street is a sister network to TV1 i guess it would be better to show it on that network, but anyway seeing that TV1 is the number 1 channel on foxtel it might be better anyway, also the King was very good, i really hope that TV1 contunes to produce some local content because thats how networks like USA and TNT become number 1 cable networks in the US
