Ricky Gervais to host Golden Globes

Ricky Gervais has been offered 'free reign' as the host of the 67th Golden Globe Awards.

Ricky-gervaisIt was at the Golden Globes in 2004 that most of America sat up and said “Who?” when The Office swept aside its traditional comedies. Now Ricky Gervais  is set to give back some love as the host of the 67th Annual Golden Globes Awards.

Set to take place on January 17th, the Globes hasn’t had a host since 1995.

And let’s face it, he was one of the funniest things about the Emmy Awards too, and that was just as presenter.

He has reportedly been offered ‘free reign’ as host. Yay.

“I have resisted many other offers like this, but there are just some things you don’t turn down,” he said.

“We never thought a host was necessary,” Hollywood Foreign Press Assn. President Philip Berk said. “Only when NBC suggested the idea that a host might enhance the show, my response was the only person we could consider for the task would be Ricky Gervais, and we were lucky to get him.”

Nominations for the Film and TV awards will be announced on December 15.

  1. Good choice. He’s exactly what you want in a host – witty, cutting, and most of all, unpredictable so that everyone is slightly nervous and not sure what to expect. Hopefully it’ll be great TV.

  2. So January 17th is the date Americans will realise Ricky Gervais is a one trick pony.

The Office was great but everything since has been garbage.

His shows/movies have been somewhat successful, but success doesn’t equal quality.
