Molly out of Hey Hey return

Molly Meldrum is now a "no-go" for Hey Hey its Saturday's return after renewing a two year deal with Seven.

mmMolly Meldrum is now a confirmed “no-go” for Hey Hey its Saturday‘s return after renewing a two year deal with the Seven Network.

The Herald Sun reports the music guru will file stories for on Sunrise, Weekend Sunrise, Sunday Night and Today Tonight.

Seven relented on his appearance for two reunion shows after a personal plea from Daryl Somers to David Leckie.

If Australia’s Got Talent returns to Seven in 2010 it could also make Red Symons’ inclusion difficult.

Hey Hey is expected to return for around 20 episodes next year, rumoured to be starting in May.

  1. My 2cents worth is that Molly is better off with Ch7, I like the work he does for them and they seem to treat him very well. Great interview with Susan Boyle (can’t see Richard Wilkins doing such a sensitive one)

I’m yawning at the very thought of Hey Hey its ”whatever” day. Methinks Red should stay with ‘Australia’s Got Talent’ too. However I think there are others who could adequately replace him.

  2. he’s my least fave part of the show and has become so decrepit and creepy these last few years, I’d much rather see less of him; so I’m happy about this!! 🙂

  3. Remember when Nine had that infamous roast for Molly where they just made fun of his rumoured homosexuality. He was clearly offended but put on a happy face for Nine. Molly, with so much knowledge about the music industry can probably spot a dud hit from miles away and has decided to avoid Nine and Hey Hey.

People loved it as a reunion just to see the cast again but it will probably become tired after a few episodes. Nine haven’t been the one since years ago when they claimed to be “still the one”, other than the Winter Olympics, I don’t see myself watching any more of Nine in the future.

  4. I don’t understand why people think Hey Hey needs to change and supposedly be with the times it rated far better then these so called young hip shows such as the 7pm Project.

  5. I think Red will stick with Seven and Australia’s Got Talent as well…

Daryl is very passionate about returning Hey Hey to our screens – but realistically, it was excellent to see the reunions…

However I think the return of the show at 20 episodes is overkill – Hey Hey is past its Hey-day…

When you think Hey Hey, what comes to mind? Saturday? Red? Molly? Plucka? Wilbur? etc…

I think we’ll see good ratings for the first couple of episodes – but it could go downhill after that.

  6. Not surprised he is staying at Seven. They treat him well. As for Australia’s Got Talent why wouldnt it return. Its going gang busters and Seven wont bring it back just to screw Nine over they bring it back because its a show that is worth watching and is rating very very well.

  7. Hey Hey needs to adjust a lot of things to fit a new decade anyway. Falling right back into how it used to be was all very pleasantly nostalgic and all, but it can’t sustain it throughout. Comedy and variety has changed. There is a reason why it was cancelled originally, and I hope they learn from that.

  8. You idiot Molly!, You were so much better for the 8mins-10min segments on Hey Hey!

As for Australia’s got Talent, They will air it in 2010 just to Screw over Hey Hey’s comeback.. Thats one of the Safest Bets for 2010!

  9. Hooray! Maybe they can find a music reporter that doesn’t make it all about himself. In Reunion #2 they had their interview with the Black Eyed Peas, and the band got to say about 4 words before being molested by a perv in a duck suit.

  10. Well I’m not surprised Molly would stick with Seven.

Why would he return to Ch. 9 after their infamous ‘roast’ show in 2004?

The organisers of that one were disgraceful in their treatment of a noted music guru and don’t deserve his talents after their shameful behaviour.

Good on Molly for sticking with a station who use his talents in a non-judgemental way.
