Airdate: Doctor Who: The End of Time

EXCLUSIVE: TV Tonight announces when Australia will see Doctor Who: The End of Time.

DR_WHO_REGENEXCLUSIVE: TV Tonight can finally reveal the Australian airdates for Doctor Who: The End of Time Parts 1 & 2.

Part 1 will screen at 7:30pm Sunday February 14 on ABC1.

Part 2 will follow a week later 7:30pm Sunday February 21 on ABC1.

The two part adventure brings to an end the reign of David Tennant as The Doctor and introduces Matt Smith, briefly, in the second part. The episodes aired in the UK on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, topping 10.4m viewers for Tennant’s exit.

Tennant is widely viewed by many, including die-hard Who fans, of being the best of the 10 actors to have assumed the role of The Doctor.

Critics in the UK were particularly rapturous about the second episode pointing to its mix of adventure, jeopard, emotion and sentiment.

Appearing in the mammoth adventure are John Simms (Life on Mars), who returns as The Master, Timothy Dalton (The Living Daylights, Licence to Kill) and former Who favourites who have helped distinguish the Tennant era.

“The End of Time” also signifys the end of Russell T. Davies (Torchwood, Queer as Folk) reign with writer Steven Moffat (Doctor Who, Jekyll) taking charge as Showrunner.

Matt Smith (Party Animals), the youngest-ever actor to assume the role, will lead a new Who series to air later this year.

  1. Oh please, for all those “die hard fans” who watched it illegally, you are actually endangering your chances of seeing closer to the date. It makes Sense that if ABC gets killer ratings for an ep then the next one they’ll be like “oh, loads of people want this, let’s not delay” rather than if no one watches it… that will only cause them to assume Dr Who is not as popular as it seems. And as if “die hard fans” wont be watching again when it’s broadcast. I know that if I had downloaded it/ watched on you tube [you know, in really good quality *rolls eyes*] I’d sure as hell be watching again.

Just my two cents, as a die hard fan.

    Also, Super excited!!!

  2. Hi David. I would say good luck to ABC for the ratings.

Why is it that Channel 7, 9 and 10 can screen US TV shows just days after it is screened in US and yet ABC cannot do so?

I love the 2 part finale. Sad to see David Tennant go. I have ordered the blu-rays and am going to watch it next week again. 🙂

  3. What I wrote in the following article:
    http://tvtonight.com.au/2010/01/david-tennant-exits-dr-who-in-stunning-finale.html
““Australian viewers still have no clear date for when The End of Time Parts 1 & 2 will air on the ABC (failing an amendment it is unlikely to air in January).”

The End of Time Part 1 includes a reference to Torchwood: Children of Earth. This could mean that The End of Time won’t be on ABC1 until after Children of Earth finishes on ABC2 on February 5.”

    Told you so.

  4. I saw this in the UK over xmas. Part 1 was a huge dissapointment (especially as it was xmas day). None of it made any sense until Part 2 was shown a week later, then all was forgiven. Part 2 was a star wars romp followed by the tear inducing “death” scene. I would highly recommend viewing the two episodes together.

  5. @Michael

Exactly right. UKTV showed it not only within 24 hours, but on the exact same day! UK programs usually air in the morning (Australian Time), so by showing them the very same night, a large reason for piracy is avoided. I wish television networks would recognise the need for this in a large scale manner, not just individual cases (Children of Earth etc.)

  6. Holey moley! I think it is time for ABC to wake up and treat their viewers with a tad more respect. The Torchwood DVD Children of Earth has been out for a while. The Complete Specials for Doctor Who including the 2 part finale: The End of Time will be out next week in UK (both DVD and blu-rays) Monday 11th Jan 2010. So if viewers cannot wait, simply buy them instead of watching it on the Slow ABC. Would ABC expect a good viewers rating? Nah…..fat chance! If ABC wants good TV ratings, they should have at least shown it a few days or 1 week after the UK screening.

When is ABC going to screen the new episodes of Poirot which was recently screened in UK and Sweden? Or do we have to wait for BBC to release their DVDs first in UK???

    1. Kris, Torchwood: Children of Earth was shown hot off the satellite by UKTV in Australia. ABC did not gain access to the show until those rights expired. I think it’s a positive that it is getting an FTA screening for those who didn’t see it on Pay TV. It’s a ripping yarn.

  7. Haha! Comment of the day goes to Michael (5:08pm), saying ABC “treat their viewers with contempt” over the two month delay in broadcast.

I hear what you’re saying, man. For once, won’t they think of the ‘Children… Of Earth.’

  8. this is a really kewl romp through dr who loved it and it was sad – but will it be in HD or be a SD version screened on HD – the British Blu ray set is out next week have ordered the complete set of specials bmm cant wait an it will be cheaper then buying from Australia –

  9. If there’s one good thing about ABC’s delay in screening this, it will mean that Torchwood Children of Earth: in 5 parts running weekly from 8th January, will be completed by the time Doctor Who is broadcast, which keeps their sequence correct.

Without going into detail, there’s a couple of plot points that crossover.

  10. What a farce. Almost 2 months after they originally aired in the UK. It is no wonder other means are so popular. If the ABC are going to treat their viewers with such contempt, they should let UKTV show it like they did with Children of Earth i.e. within 24 hours of it being originally broadcast and in HD.

  11. Will happilly be watching these superb episodes again.
Interesting to note David credits Dalton with the Bond movies, not with “The Beautician & the Beast”. 😉

  12. Will the ABC air it in HD & 5.1 audio, like the UK was treated to?

Or will they go cheap again?

Why have a ‘HD’ Channel (Ch 20) if they’re not going to show anything in Actual HD?

  13. I’ll be sad to see David Tennant leave. I enjoyed “His Doctor” It will be interesting to see where the series goes with the loss of Russell T. Davies as well. Now you’ve got this info David … When will we see the new series. Actually are the BBC airing them yet?
