Bumped: Saturday Disney

As expected, Seven is moving Saturday Disney to 9am to make room for Weekend Sunrise.

As expected, Seven is moving Saturday Disney to make room for Weekend Sunrise.

Beginning this Saturday it will now air at 9am -11am.

The shift replaces a Disney movie: Kronk’s New Groove and knocks The Emporer’s New School out of schedule.

Weekend Sunrise is yet to confirm Andrew O’Keefe and Samantha Armytage as hosts for the new Saturday edition.

And yes, that makes Seven the second amendment of the 2010 ratings year.

  1. i am not a child, but i Love saturday disney. it is a fun interlude at the end of a week. it is no wonder i think my life is going at high speed, the natural ‘brake’ at the start of the weekend has gone!

  2. I know! Me and my brother wake up at 6 thirty to get ready to watch it! Network 7 just wants money. Terrible move, Seven!

Excuse me, Centophobia but Saturday Disney itself is live but not the shows or segments on it. The things like reading emails and make craft is live.

  3. Off the topic whose idea was it for Channel 7 to drop the Childrens Television Programming in the Mornings on weekdays and weekends for a dull as a church sermon breakfast programme.

  4. Its The Morning Show that has infomericals not Sunrise, however having said that Sunrise have commerical agreements with a number of companies and advertise their products throughout the program i.e Jetstar promos and Sunrise weather is proudly brought to you by such as such.

  5. More Sunrise? Fair enough on weekdays, but let the kids get up early on the weekends and let the adults sleep in! Silly move Seven. Do they not sell enough ab circle pros and sham wows and tell us about Brangelina enough during the week?

Saturday Disney’s been a great kid’s show for a long time and should stay where it is. Is this bump a plan to just axe it outright later in the year (due to lack of ‘ratings’)?

  6. I just hope Seven has the brains to promote the change (not just in kiddies primetime, but in mum and dad’s primetime too) otherwise it could harm Saturday Disney’s chances of a full live-action lineup working.

I also wouldn’t mind Seven developing a Saturday Disney Retro product, for 7Two, where a random full episode of Saturday Disney from 7’s vaults airs, in the 7-9 slot on Saturdays, including the cartoons that episode aired. Imagine seeing Bonkers, Darkwing Duck, even Ducktales back on 7Two screens… After all, I’m loving Pinky and The Brain all over again on GO!, why not do the same with the Disney back catalogue of animated series.

  7. This is kind of annoying, but could be a good move for Saturday Disney, with late rising kids now being able to watch. Still a bit crappy that it has survived over 20 years on air without a time-slot change (except for a few months last year when it moved to 6:30). When you start messing with things it can become ugly.

Long running shows deserve a little respect… this is it’s 20th year! And the longest running host to be a part of the show is still there! This October will mark 8 years since Shae Brewster has been on the show, beating out Daniel Widdowson (7 years) and Shelley Craft and Jeniene Mapp (6 years).

And who needs more news?! Can’t Saturday mornings just be for the kids who has gone to school all week and look forward to Saturday morning cartoons. It Weekend Sunrise doesn’t do all that well at 6:00am, I wonder if they’ll move SD to 6-8am, then have Weekend Sunrise from 8-10am.

  8. Garion: It’s the first time it has been bumped later. There was a failed bumped earlier experiment (is there such thing as bumping earlier) last year.

I reckon David Frankin (who helped spearhead the program in the 1990’s and who commented here when the 1000th ep aired last year), will be mighty upset at this news.
