US comedy 10 Things I Hate About You, based on the 1999 film starring Heath Ledger, is coming to FOX8.

The half-hour, single-cam series developed by Carter Covington (Greek) is in turn loosely based on Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew.

10 episodes aired in the US last July on ABC Family and a further 10 were approved, which began last month.

The Stratford sisters, Bianca (Meaghan Martin) and Kat (Lindsey Shaw), are two very different people, which is evident as they start at their new high school with very contradictory goals. Kat is a cool strong-willed, in-your-face feminist who is looking to save the world and get out of high school as fast as she can. Bianca is a social butterfly whose only concern is that she is popular, at any cost. As they both start a bumpy year at Padua High, can each girl get what she wants in the end, as they navigate the popular crowd, boys and their over-protective dad?

Gil Junger, who directed the movie, has returned to executive produce the show’s first several episodes, and the weekly series is executive-produced by Carter Covington (“Greek”). Larry Miller will also reprise his role as Walter Stratford, the girls’ over-protective father. Ethan Peck takes on the role of resident bad boy Patrick Verona (originated by Heath Ledger in the 1999 film).

It premieres at 7:30pm Sunday May 2nd on FOX8.

  1. I know the age thing, I just mean weird that he decided to do it with a totally new cast. I have to wonder did they approach Larry to reprise his role?

Either way I really like the show and hope it does good here and in the US.

  2. “The whole cast is great, weird how Larry Miller is the only original cast member. ”

@Craig: it’s hardly “weird” that Larry Miller is the only original cast member. The original girls and other high school students – Julia Stiles, Larisa Oleynik, Joseph Gordon-Levitt et al – have aged 11 years since making the 1999 film, making them unsuitable for playing high school age kids, they’re all in their late 20s now and I really couldn’t imagine Stiles or Gordon-Levitt doing TV at this point in their careers. And of course… Heath Ledger is obviously dead.

  3. Why has this taken so long to come here? Also didn’t TEN have the rights to the show?

I never saw the movie but I do like the TV show, The whole cast is great, weird how Larry Miller is the only original cast member. I like Lindsey Shaw, who started in the short lived Aliens in America among other things.

Oh and don’t be fooled the 2 lots of 10 eps are the same season but Fox8 will likely say S2 when ep 11 rolls around!
