And you thought musical theatre was all about the singing?

Following on from the very entertaining How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria? UKTV will air the follow up series, Any Dream Will Do, which searches for the title role of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat.

Again hosted by Graham Norton, it features the judges Denise Van Outen and John Barrowman, plus the eccentric Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber.

At auditions on the first day the boys are even asked to prove they have the body to carry off the shirtless scenes.

The series was filmed some time ago in 2007 and has since been succeeded by I’d Do Anything searching for a new Oliver! and Over the Rainbow, currently looking for a new Dorothy.

The BBC is shining the spotlight on the world of musical theatre with a talent search for a new West End star. Boys from all over the UK set out to prove they have the charisma and star quality to make it in the lead role of ‘Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat’; a classic musical known to generations of school children.

Joining musical composer and producer Andrew Lloyd Webber and presenter Graham Norton is the Any Dream Will Do panel, whose job it is to help viewers choose their Joseph. Broadway and West End leading lady Denise Van Outen; Torchwood star John Barrowman; acclaimed theatre producer Bill Kenwright; and outspoken and opinionated voice coach Zoe Tyler bring their expertise in theatre, music, acting and singing to offer advice to the wannabe Josephs.

Watch Andrew Lloyd Webber and the panel choose a male lead who will perform in London’s prestigious West End.

Starring: Graham Norton, Denise Van Outen (Hotel Babylon, Fairy Tales, Where the Heart Is) and John Barrowman (Torchwood, Doctor Who)

It airs Thursday at 7.30pm, from May 27 on UKTV.
