Tammy McIntosh slams the Logies, until…

"If you win one you never work again" says an unimpressed Tammy McIntosh -who has a change of heart just hours later.

Robust opinions on the Logie Awards continues with Sea Patrol actress Tammy McIntosh speaking her mind on breakfast radio yesterday, but apologising later in the day.

McIntosh’s broadside follows several other opinions this week calling for a rethink on the event.

“I’ve done, like, 20 years of them and I love the idea that we celebrate Australian TV,” she is reported to have said.

“If we had the money to produce an amazing show that we were proud of, I would go but I think it’s a bit naff that it’s associated with one network and one magazine that I’ve never read in my life.

“It needs to be based on a wider perception of the industry – the Australian TV landscape has changed dramatically and those awards have not changed with them.

“You end up getting drunk, saying the wrong things to the wrong people and you never work again, and especially if you win one you never work again. Did I say that or think that?”

Her last line would have really smarted with organisers and Nine….

But enquiries from the Daily Telegraph resulted in a backflip.

“My intention wasn’t to be disrespectful to the Logies or the Nine Network.

“I absolutely think the Logies are a relevant part of the Australian landscape and they are an important celebration of our television industry,” she said.

“We all work our butts off so we deserve to have the Logies and love attending.

“I apologise profusely to anyone who took offence over my comments.”

Tammy McIntosh currently appears in Sea Patrol for the Nine Network.

  1. I think she was right.
Why are the logies decided on by magazine voters?
All you have to do is look at a cover and see the lack of credibility of it. Do we really need cover after cover dedicated to that embaressment of a show Home and Away?

  2. Mercado should take his blinkers off. TV Week readers may love TV, but not all TV-lovers read that trash. TV Week readers have a “right” to vote for “Most Popular” categories, but so should the rest of us.

  3. Good on Tammy for saying what we all think – but then to go back and say “oh I don’t really think that” is kinda dumb. Love to know what transpired in between the two statements!

  4. Critic Andrew Mercado hits back at Logies bashing on his blog saying, “people who buy and read the magazine love television and surely that gives them the right to vote for ‘Most Popular’ awards,” and includes a disclaimer as a TV Week columnist.

  5. Isn’t it marvellous that we live in a society where people can feel free to speak their mind without fear of persecution or retribution. TonyR was spot on with his comment. Where’s ‘deep throat’ when you need them?

  6. Remember that scene from All the Presiden’s Men with Dustin Hoffman on the phone with the librarian?
“I think it’s obvious that someone got to that woman.”

  7. @Regan: why is the AFI deemed the be-all and end-all of the entertainment industry and the best organisation to tell us what is “best” on TV? Last time I heard anything about the AFI’s TV category they handed out Kath And Kim an award for Best Drama!

  8. Somebody needs to start a “Replace the Logies with AFI TV Awards” facebook group and see if they can get the membership higher than TV Week’s circulation numbers.
