Vaucluse stars in The Block

Vaucluse is the suburb of choice for the revived Nine reality series, The Block.

The Block will film its next series in Sydney once again.

Vaucluse is the suburb of choice for the revived Nine reality series, following previous addresses in Bondi and Manly.

Scott Cam hosts the new series, due on Nine later this year. It is produced once again by David Cress and Julian Barbour (The Chopping Block, home MADE).

The four couples to feature are less glam than the first two series but appear to retain Anglo-Saxon casting.

They are:

* Erin and Jake – engaged sporting couple, Jake is currently training to represent Australia in kayaking at the next Olympics.

* Duncan and Mark – best mates who met in a hardware store 20 years ago.

* Brenton and Cheryl – a dating couple, he’s a construction worker and she’s a real estate agent with a passion for interior deign.

* Neisha and John – married four years, John works as a construction engineer while Neisha is a pre-school teacher.

Cam recently told TV Tonight, “If they’re bitchy people, there’ll be bitchy stuff goin’ on. It’s all gonna be a secret. It’s a great block and there’ll be a few little changes happening with the people that we’ve got going in there.”

  1. Hmm, I’ll have to go on a drive around Vaucluse soon. I work in the neighbouring suburb, Rose Bay, so I think a few lunchtime expeditions are on the cards! There are a lot of two-up, two down 30’s era blocks of flats in Vaucluse, so I’d say that’s what they’ll be refurbishing. It is an exceedingly well-heeled suburb, a real millionaire’s row, so obviously no expense has been spared in bringing The Block back to life. Whether it rates is another story. As I recall. only season one was a success. Season Two died a death and it got consigned to the ratings dustbin.

  2. David Cress and Julian Barbour should probably leave homeMADE and The Chopping Block off their resume. Their only successful venture has been The Block, and that was only really successful in the first season. I’m not convinced this new version will work, especially with Scott Cam as host.

  3. Lucy, Scott Cam ‘tired’ … never ! I find him refreshing, effervescent as he aah … oh do you mean Scott Cam the blokey builder ?

I take it all back, he is indeed tired and extremely tedious.

I guess that he kind of fits in with Nine’s target audience. The type of people who enjoy the Footy Show (tired), Hey Hey (exhausted is probably a better term), Funniest Home Videos, Bert Newton etc etc

  4. Beauty. I really enjoyed the previous seasons of this show, I have no idea why! I hope they don’t flap it up. Pity not to have eye-candy Durie running it, but Scott Cam seems to have a likeable TV persona.

  5. Another show made in Sydney !!!
One of the great things about British TV is that their production is done right across the UK . It would have been nice to see this program done in a city that is not on the east coast of Australia.

  6. I would have prefered young glamorous couples, as the conflict is great tv! but i’m young so maybe that’s why – i can see why older people wouldn’t like the beauty couples. Really not sure how this year’s Block will go – I like Scott Cam, but i don’t think he’s suited to this kind of a show. oh well, guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

  7. Well it will an interesting exercise in breaking people’s perceptions of the housing stock of Vaucluse anyway. To go with the mega mansions, there’s everything down to a plenty of the rundown 2 x 2 blocks much like the building that hosted the first iteration, which I suppose is why they’ve picked it.

  8. Bad choice for host. Scott Cam can’t shake that arrogant persona. Nine should be seeking new talent instead of recycling the same tired personalities.
