Canberra still centre for Prime News shift

Prime News didn’t meet its July 1 date to relocate regional bulletins in Canberra, but it is still moving forward with the plan.

The regional broadcaster was centralising bulletins from Wagga and Orange as part of a digital upgrade.

Veteran Prime News presenter Doug Hogan has been promoted to deputy network news editor and denied the shift will impact on local content, despite the loss of live news.

“You will find that there won’t be a lot of changes, I will still be on the box and the crew here will stay.”

“We have been under fire from some people thinking that we won’t have the same local content while I’m in Canberra but that won’t change.

“People have trusted me for 28 years, and just because I am leaving town doesn’t mean my perception of what’s important will change.”

Prime Canberra network news editor John Rudd said “the ball is definitely rolling” on broadcasts from Canberra.

Prime opted to keep its Albury News in Albury.

  1. From the Central Western Daily (Orange) 30/6/10 centralwesterndaily.com.au/news/local/news/general/delay-in-closure-of-prime-studio/1872112.aspx

  2. The Wagga Wagga bulletin won’t be live. Does this mean that the Orange bulletin will be? Is Tamworth and North Coast Prime News joining the mix?

Is Canberra finally going to get a full Prime News bulletin of its own since 2001? At least the costs would be cheaper if Doug Hogan read with Natalie Forrest with Daniel Gibson on weather.
