It’s Adam vs Callum!

Adam Liaw and Callum Hann will compete for the title of Australia's MasterChef for 2010 after Claire Winton-Burn was eliminated from the contest.

Callum Hann and Adam Liaw will compete for the title of MasterChef Australia 2010 after Claire Winton-Burn was eliminated in the penultimate episode.

31 year old Melbourne chef Winton-Burn was cut after her main course was judged the weakest dish in a catering challenge.

Claire, Callum and Adam were required to cater for the Governor-General Quentin Bryce and a party of 30 at Government House.

Adam was in charge of the trout entree, Claire was in charge of the lamb main course and Callum responsible for the pudding dessert.

In typical MasterChef style all three were facing an uphill battle to deliver their dishes with several near-disasters along the way. While George Calombaris and Matt Preston tasted the dishes at the table, Gary Mehigan oversaw the running of the kitchen.

True to the quality of the remaining contestants, all three dishes looked delicious. Fittingly the guests were happy with their meals.

But the judges ruled that Claire needed more help in the kitchen than her teammates. Claire spent hours prepping her 70 cutlets of lamb and needed help by the Government House kitchen staff in order to prep 350 broad beans and cut kilograms of mushrooms.

“I’ve been inspired more than I thought was possible,” she said.

“I picked the hardest dish. So I made my bed I have to lie in it,” said a tearful Claire.

“Cooking is my happy place. It’s as simple as that.”

Winton-Burn hopes is now planning a concept where she caters for Sunday lunches and wants to follow her dream of delving into food writing.

On Sunday night a nation will hold its breath as Callum and Adam will face off in an all-male, all South-Australian final for the 2010 title.

  1. ACA having a story on Roberta Williams on how good she is as cook … and being judged by the swearing Peter Russell-Clarke. It was her ‘audition’ for Seven’s cooking show. Pathetic!

  2. They should show the final in SA from 7pm, in line with AEST and not have Rules of Engagement on before it. Although the AFL Adealide vs Pt Adel finishes at 7.30 (on Seven though) so maybe not…!

  3. I sometimes wonder if people watch with their eyes and ears closed there are so many misconceptions about MC.

I find it strange as well people saying Callum is too young, how old do you think most chef apprentices are!?

Anyway, I am very happy with the final two and wanted to throw something at Claire last night when she whined ‘Well I chose the hardest dish’ yeah you did, you had first pick and you still chose the main so suck it up!

  4. I’m not fussed as to who wins. They both seem like two genuinely lovely blokes. Really gentle, sweet natured people.
They’re both deserving in their own right. I’d be more inclined to buy Adam’s book but that’s not to dismiss what Callum has to offer.
Best of luck to both of them – may the best man on the day win!

    1. MC is filmed weeks in advance. I don’t get how a sighting of Claire was a spoiler sorry. It just means filming had paused. People have lives. They also had Sundays off. The filming of the winner announced will take place on Sunday to try to minimise the leaks. Press are not being given the info in advance this year (even on Sunday). It will still be tough to plug Twitter leaks. If you live outside AEST you better bunker down and don’t go online.

  5. On 2UE radio this morning they interviewed Adam. He basically said he wasn’t ruling out going back as a lawyer as he actually liked his job. He admitted that he felt like he had to lie on camera say “how he didnt like his previous life” etc. So with that said, I think Callum should win. He’s only 20 and would be a perfect apprentice chef.

  6. im glad Claire went last night , but i thought it a very odd final challenge when so much was on the line- for them to have 3 different dishes to cook and for 30 people…this should have been a level playing field..not this challenge…by the way didnt think much of the GG… perfect opportunity to see a bit of who she was…..all we got was her fake smile and a picture of her back as she strode out of the room …like the queen….booo

  7. Last Sunday the Herald Sun ran a gossip piece about Claire wearing a new diamond ring and sightings with her new fiance near his Glen Iris home – I knew then she had been eliminated, so that was a spoiler – so shame on the Herald Sun. Ten and Fremantle need to manage this stuff way better – particularly towards the end. Not that is seems to effect the ratings!

  8. I hope Adam wins. Callum is an amazing talent at such a young age, but I think winning would actually hinder his progress. He needs to refine his skills, do his apprenticeship and he will have a great future. I think if he actually wins he will be bogged down with media, writing his book – while his concept is great, does he have the credibility yet?

  9. callum should have been gone weeks ago and that’s the problem with this show. he has stuffed so much and he is still in the show. ridiculas. adam will win for sure

  10. I am really glad that Adam is in the top 2….but how the bumbling fool Callum made it I’ll never know. Still, he’s good for a laugh. I heartily chuckle every time he gets nervous or he burns something – so I’m guaranteed a laugh every ep.

As for Claire, well, she flew under the radar all season with very middle of the road type food and no one even noticed she was there. When she made comments like “this is my first elimination” etc, she was rarely in the top 3 either so she was hardly anything to brag about.
