Renewed: Rescue Special Ops

Updated: Nine continues an upbeat drama slate with its emergency rescue series approved for a third season.

Rescue Special Ops has been approved for a third season, according to the Sunday Telegraph.

“Les Hill’s LA plans are on hold again with confirmation Nine will produce a third series of the mostly amiable Rescue Special Ops,” notes the newspaper.

Daniel Amalm, Libby Tanner and Peter Phelps are expected to go back to the studio after a short break from the completion of season two.

Last week’s episode pulled 917,000 viewers.

Let’s see how it fares without that reality show pulling more viewers to TEN this week.

Rescue will add to Nine’s busy drama slate which includes several telemovies and another season of Underbelly.

UPDATED:
Twenty-two new episodes will be filmed in and around Sydney from September to screen in 2011.

The new series will again star Peter Phelps, Libby Tanner, Gigi Edgley, Katherine Hicks, Les Hill, Andrew Lees and Daniel Amalm.

  1. I’m glad for the industry’s sake that RSO got a 22 episode order, perhaps the longer season will allow the writers to give the characters more depth amongst the special effects.

As for Nine not being experimental, well it is a commercial network, and the commercial tv world (at least in Australian FTA), there’s not as much incentive to rock the boat too much, unless you’re really really sure about the end product. If the eyeballs aren’t there, then how can you convince companies to fork over $$$ for adverts?

  2. While I’m all for Aussie drama this show isn’t very good despite it’s great cast. Plus it’s nothing too new.

At least Underbelly and Sea Patrol are moderately different – plus they’re pretty good too. Nine could use this money to do something different.

  3. True Ducko, the last 10 episodes of series 2 of Rush all got around 900, 000 viewers some weeks even around 800, 000 viewers and yet that got renewed to

channel nine havent done a 22 part series for quite some time, series 3 of RSO is going to be very expensive

  4. this does show how far we have moved in a short time. less than 2 years ago McLeods Daughters was pulled after 2 episodes got just under 1mil. and ended up at 11:00 Saturday during summer. now a show that gets around 900k Monday 8:30 gets a 22 episode renual after just 3 episodes have aired.
poor McLeods, such a high quality show right to the end.

  5. Another 22 eps of this and a 5th series of Sea Patrol! That means Nine’s drama next year will be a rerun of this year, only with fewer people watching. I don’t get it. I also don’t get Les Hill – no way is he a leading man. The banter between him and the Gigi Edgly character just grates – not that I watch it that closely!

  6. Fantastic news not only do we get another series but it’s a full 22 ep season. Now if only we could get a 22 ep season of Sea Patrol!

  7. Why renew a show that is not doing well at all? surely with nine’s full drama slate they don’t have to renew it for drama points reasons .
God I’m sick of cop type shows….really hope Offspring rates wells and gets other networks to greenlight some different kind of dramas!

  8. I think Les Hill should stick with the show for as long as possible. Someone at channel nine gave him the opportunity of a lifetime by giving him that role in Underbelly, and then Scorched, and now Rescue Special Ops – after having disappeared from screens since Home and Away. He just passes as being a sex symbol (by the women who think Shannon Noll is a sex symbol), and the show seems to boost his ego every week (saving the day, bedding a new beautiful woman etc).

I think he’s missed the Hollywood boat, and should repay the guy at channel nine and stick with Rescue Special Ops for the long haul.
