Suspended Collectors host Andy Muirhead has made his first court appearance on charges of accessing child pornography.

Suspended Collectors host Andy Muirhead has made his first court appearance on charges of accessing child pornography today.

The 34-year-old did not enter a plea during his brief appearance in the Magistrates Court in Hobart.

Muirhead is facing one charge of using the internet to access child pornography between May 15 and June 8 this year.

Commonwealth prosecutor Ian Arendt asked for more time to prepare the case, but Magistrate Sam Mollard refused a request for a six-week extension because of what he said was a legislative demand that Muirhead return in four weeks, reports The Age.

Collectors was taken off air after Muirhead requested that he take personal leave without pay from the ABC, but returned to screens without him last month.

He was released to appear again on August 30th.
