Kinder, gentler, Junior MasterChef.

No eliminations, no tears, and positivity will dominate Junior MasterChef later this year.

No eliminations, no tears, and hopefully no stunts with Matt Preston smashing dishes on the floor -that’s what to expect from Junior MasterChef.

Since that promo aired on the night of MasterChef’s finale, word of mouth for the show has been strong from the get go.

The kids in the promo looked brilliantly talented, and unlike the celebrities we had to endure last year, these kids will stay true to the original series’ mantra of championing the little guy.

More than 5000 children applied to be on the series, which will feature contestants aged between eight and 12. Fifty have been selected to take part in the series.

TEN will launch the series after the Commonwealth Games, promising more episodes per week than the single Celebrity edition, but fewer than the main game we have just concluded.

“Hopefully there will be a lot more frying than crying,” judge Anna Gare says.

“We’re going to keep things light. It’s going to be a totally positive show with lots of encouragement.”

Gare is best known for her LifeStyle Food Channel series Quickies in My Kitchen, but Junior MasterChef will surely make her a household name.

Expect the positivity to include a running Leader’s Board to compensate for the fact that none of the kids get eliminated.

The series is in production with Shine Australia.

I still reckon there will be crying….

  1. @Ryaneco

It is spelt ‘definitely’. No ‘a’ in this word.

I think that Junior Masterchef will rate extremely well due to having a broad appeal across numerous demographics.

  2. Lol @ Mason. They will also cry every time the judges don’t like the food. How can they expect an 8 year old to cook?!?? They might need a spit bucket next to the judges. Haha. And David why would the judges cry?

  3. i think this’ll be big, and Anna Gare is set to become a household name. She has a wonderful personality, is very likeable and the camera loves her. Every kid I’ve spoken to is amped for this. David, I think there’ll be lots of tears – but mostly from soppy parent viewers!

  4. LOL, Dylan XD

I was a bit skeptical of this at first, but after seeing the trailer I’m looking forward to seeing it now. It looks really good! (That kid tempered his own chocolate!!)

  5. Either no one reads, or the story was updated after some posts.

“Expect the positivity to include a running Leader’s Board to compensate for the fact that none of the kids get eliminated.”

I think that’s a great idea, and something they could incorporate into the regular show, or at least eliminate the lowest x every few weeks, rather than making one mistake after weeks of perfection and get eliminated.

One reason my mum doesn’t watch MC is she hates shows where people get eliminated, so she may actually watch JMC.

  6. There will be eliminations otherwise how can we have an overall winner? I hear that the top 24 has been chosen and four kids will be eliminated at a time.

  7. I reckon it’s a Great idea what they’re doing trying to make a Junior Masterchef to show off the young talent we have in Australia. I just hope that other stations don’t try to capitalise on this concept of cooking competitions too much till it becomes like Big Brother, overused till it became bland. Thank God they didn’t make a Junior Big Brother in Australia.
