Gone: Beat the Star. Bumped: Four Weddings. Returning: Border Security, The Force.

Seven's light entertainment output takes another hit as Beat the Star will be replaced.

Seven will dump Beat the Star from Tuesday nights after next week.

The game show, which pulled 955,000 viewers, failed to replicate Minute to Win It. Despite Seven’s enthusiasm for the show, it attracted average reviews.

Seven moves Four Weddings to 7:30pm Tuesdays from September 21st, to screen before Packed to the Rafters.

In its place on Wednesdays will be new episodes of Border Security and The Force.

Next week basketball champ Andrew Gaze Seven will appear in Beat The Star.

It isn’t clear yet where Seven plans to run its other completed episodes.

  1. nnot the surprised it got the boot. it looked a bit sus when a trained prefessional chef could get how long it would take a couple of pieces of toast to pop up

  2. I have to add though, that although it was a bad show, I hope Seven won’t be discouraged from taking risks in the future. I don’t want Border Security every night.

  3. Beat the Star was terrible – it was clear it was rigged for the family to win. If you want light entertainment for the family, Talkin about your Generation is on at the same time and wins hands down.

  4. I think we’ve all had more than enough of the ‘celebrity’ competition shows. I also thought it was a bizarre move to screen Four Wedding before City Homicide. The factuals are a better match.

  5. Wednesday week, I will tune on the first ep of The Block and see how it goes, will record Glee and quite excited for the Boss Coming to Dinner. I’ve given up on House a long time ago unfortunately.

  6. that is how the schdule should have been from the beginning. if beat the star was ever goin to find and audience it would no be against top gear and TBYG. atleast 4W won’t clash with top gear and might have a similar audience to PTTR, and if anyhing can hold up against glee and the block the factuals should do ok.

  7. Well, I didn’t watch Beat the Star as it sounded like a lame idea made lamer by not actually having any real stars, but I have to agree with Jon and koverstreet – WTF Seven? Less than a million ain’t flash but you’ve got to give a show a little bit of leeway to try and build an following.

It’s not like it’s expensive to make and you’re just burning a big pile of cash, altho’ now that I read that back, maybe that’s an argument for shifting it to 72 where a small audience will still permit them to make an acceptable return on their investment. They should at least see how it rates with Gazey as he is at least a former star from not too long ago.

Seven only need to look at Ten and The 7pm Project. Lots of people dismissed it as being a terrible idea, blah blah, but Ten gave it a chance and now it’s holding it’s own.

  8. Beat the Star was basically ‘Celebrity Minute to Win It’. I think they were pushing it a bit with this one, given the source material isn’t even that good. Although, it did rate almost a million which isn’t bad? Definitely higher than I would have thought. They made the right decision boning the show. If only they had taken that step before making it.

  9. Should have been like this from the get go.

Border rpts were getting close to 1.3 last year so new eps of it and The Force should provide a half good lead-in for City Homicide and also make a few people choose between The Block and the factuals which is no doubt the reason behind this decision.

  10. Nice summary Trix & JB.
I did not watch purely based on promos and premise of shows.
Looked like tacky stuff and who thought a “promo” saying the contest will come down to seeing if family XYZ can guess within 10 seconds when bread wil pop in toaster ??? Gee whiz, not even a game that a 3 year old would find amusing.

    Who makes these decisions ?
How much do they get paid ?
Who in network approves these decisions – or is it work experience kid..

  11. but didn’t Minute to Win It start off poorly and then pick up or have I lost the plot? hahaha
I was surprised Minute to Win It was a reasonable hit, but don’t see why Beat the Star couldn’t do the same, given more than “5 minutes”.

  12. LOL that was quick. Seven lift your game. You can’t just put any old crap on tv and think it will rate. May i suggest watching the shows you plan to put on tv first to see how awful they are. And aslo sack whoever is in charge of choosing these shows.

  13. You have to wonder why they bothered with Beat The Star to begin with. Anyone with a passing interest in television watching could see it had the smell of poo about it.
