Hear Glee’s Rocky Horror songs

A whole new generation of tweens is about to have their eyes opened to the wonder of the Rocky Horror Picture Show thanks to Glee.

A whole new generation of tweens is about to have their eyes opened to the wonder of the Rocky Horror Picture Show when they set their eyes and ears on Glee‘s tribute episode.

However there are some lyric changes, ditching a reference to “heavy petting” (now “heavy sweating”) and dropping “Transexual Transylvania” -surprising given the show has embraced sexuality diversity. And why dop the word “Transexual” when the song retains its “Sweet Transvestite” lyric?

Nonetheless the songs are rather fab. It will air in Australia on November 3rd.

  1. Just noticed Another lyric change, also in Touch-A-Touch Me… from “And if anything grows while you pose” to “And if anything shows while you pose”. Is there that much difference there??

  2. @goonies… agreed with you on that scene and yet they put mercedes in that role….ridiculous !!
@gleek… tim curry apparently wasn’t asked so no cameo and from what i said above i’m sure he would have probably liked not to participate
but in all fairness i must say that they at least tried with the others to be a bit faithfull albeit downplaying the sexual suggestion and nature of the songs.

  3. Good point Goffy.
    And thanks AJ.

I asked a mates 12 year old who is into drama who hasnt watched RHPS what is worse…”heavy petting” or “heavy sweating”. She thought the latter was gross and the petting was when you pat your pet.

    I smiled.

  4. Did they keep ‘I wanna be dirty’ in Touch Me?

I can’t believe they changed Sweet Transvestite. Do they not get the point of the whole of Rocky Horror!!!?? That is where they came from!

IMO the scene when Frank is coming down the lift tapping his sixty-inch high heel in time to the music is one of the best movie scenes ever!

  5. Snapper jack- i kinda agree, but you have to remember that some people are 12 when they start High school, that RHS has sex scenes, and that the movie/Musical has a MA15 rating(i think).

but for the older kids, sure.

  6. @ snapper jack: High schools, or any amateur organisations for that matter, aren’t allowed to do Rocky Horror. Richard O’Brien will only give the license to professional theatre productions, and obviously, Glee.

  7. OMG was just talking about this today and how I reckon the local high school should put on a rocky horror show. A few of by breakfast friends were horrified and wondered how the sexual theme would be handled. I was surprised.

As a person who is employed to promote sexual diversity in schools and the community I actually wonder what cotton wool mums and dads think their little cherubs are learning in school.

Sexual diversity is on the curriculum and by accepting that “these sort of people” exist on telly is just one of the steps of people accepting that heterosexuality isnt normal just common.

Hmmm think I need a chill pill. Yay go Glee!

  8. My guess would be that the network asked/told the show to make the changes (transexual, heavy sweating). US networks have some really bizarre rules and regualtions regarding language and content on shows. Any amount of violence seems okay, but sexually suggestive dialogue or actions scares the XXXX out of them!
I am looking forward to Kurt finally getting a steady boyfriend this season, it’s long overdue!
I can’t wait to see this Halloween episode and to seeJohn Stamos get to strut his stuff.
    Thanks for the sneak peak!

  9. My bf loves Rocky Horror and likes these covers, except for Amber Riley’s ‘Sweet Transvestite’. Can’t wait to see how Adam Shankman directs the episode.

  10. The glee club puts on a production? What happened to the drama club that tried to steal Rachel away with a production of ‘Cabaret’?

The show’s scriptwriting department has the memory of a goldfish.

  11. has the generation really not heard of it, they were still playing the time warp at school dances less than 10 years ago, did they stop? it was daggy but embraced because it was one of the few songs they could get everyone to dance to in a big group coz the instructions were in the song.

  12. Kudos on the show for being pro-gay, but I still find it insensitive to the LGBT community.

The show may be afraid of using “transexuals” wouldn’t be the first time the show has been homophobic.

Let’s not forget the only gay people on the show seem to be effeminate, Kurt is predatory and always trying to convert non-gays, and being gay seems to be nothing but problematic for Kurt…to the point where he can’t even sing a duet with another guy. Let’s also not forget that a gay dads on the show never make an appearance, but scheming but a birth mother is a running storyline?

    Insensitive. Period.

They’d be wise to watch the UK film Beautiful Thing 🙂

  13. “A whole new generation of tweens is about to have their eyes opened to the wonder of the Rocky Horror Picture Show ” — their parents are about to have their mouths opened, aghast!

But yeah lyric changes are weird. Why change one euphamism for a sex act (being itself used as a euphamism for sex) to just a euphamisn for sex?

Rocky Horror devotees (stage show or picture show) are going to hate these covers though. e.g. Touch A Touch A doesn’t reach Sarandon’s mousy but not shrill quality…
