Returning: Friday Night Lights

Friday Night Lights returns for its fourth season this week at the reopened East Dillon High School.

Friday Night Lights, the drama that never got off the ground on Free to Air  here (despite the glowing reviews) returns for its fourth season this week.

Season 4 focuses on the East Dillon Lions football team at the reopened East Dillon High School in Texas. The new season brings back favorites like indie-rocker Devin (Stephanie Hunt) and Panther star Tim Riggins (Taylor Kitsch), as well as introducing many new characters such as Vince Howard (Michael B. Jordan) and Jurnee Smollett (Jess Merriweather).

It aired in the US on October 2009.

This compelling drama from executive producers Brian Grazer and Peter Berg takes place in Dillon, Texas, a community obsessed with the status of its high school football team. The head coach, Eric Taylor (Kyle Chandler), constantly feels the pressure of the town’s expectations as he leads this troubled and conflicted team through the season. While offering unique insight into an outsized, bigger-than-life Texas culture, Friday Night Lights really tells a story universal for all audiences -that there is more to life than victory, and that there is more to being a man than being a winner.

It starts 10pm Friday December 10 on W.

  1. yeah Eleven definately needs to air this at a decent timeslot, any before 11:30 will do, not after.

In all the types of listings & ads Ten have been showing for 11 that I’ve seen this isn’t listed ;(

  2. I love Friday Night Lights. It did take me a while to get into it, but its such a well written show. Jason Katims (Roswell, Parenthood) is also involved with FNL …. just in case eleven needs some tips on advertising for when they’ll bring back the 3rd season!

  3. Belinda, I think you’re right. I think that was when I had my plasma, but didn’t have my Blu-ray recorder yet. i.e. I could watch but not record digital channels (only had analogue DVDR at that point), so things on at an incovenient time I wasn’t able to see, and now you mention it I do think it was one of those programs. I saw S1 on Fox8, some of S2 as well I think, but when it came on 10 again (and I was able to record) it was S3, and I was real lost! Thankfully I’ve now caught up through the W repeats (discovered S3E1 is confusing even if you did see all of S2! S2 didn’t go through to the end of the football season, which was rather odd).

  4. Season Four also contains one of the best episodes of TV I’ve watched, I rank it up there with West Wing Two Cathedrals.

The Son is beautifully written, beautifully acting hour of TV that is powerful and quiet and showcases the very best of Friday Night Lights core cast members. If you don’t weep buckets then you are made of hard cold stone.

  5. I couldn’t get into it on FTA because they had picked up downstream of where I had last seen (don’t know if they ever showed S1 on FTA?) – got too confused and had to wait for repeats on W to pick-up from where I was last up to. This show is excellent. A football-based show on a women’s channel says how diverse it’s plots are. Deserves to do well. S5 has started in the U.S., and they’ve announced this will be the last one.
