Week 5

  1. Last year, we were watching the Australian Open in Singapore and their coverage was excellent. Live coverage on ESPN STAR SPORTS was commercial-free, especially Lleyton Hewitt’s first round match against a little-known Brazillian, shown at 4.30pm SIN time, when Perth viewers got to see it after the match was finished. It was much better than Seven’s, but when I returned, I have to put up with delayed coverage on Seven.

  2. Not a major tennis fan, but still annoyed that Seven doesn’t show the finals live in Perth. The Hopam Cup sent a tweet to the Australain Open asking where people in WA can watch the game live as they had quite a few people asking.

I like ONEHD but I do have to keep reminding myself to check the guide to see if there is anything of interest on. If somehow they could promote some of the sports more that would help me to remember!

  3. One final whinge for Seven’s coverage. They’re showing the men’s singles final when the game itself is all over with Novak Djokovic winning in straight sets. Bring the rights to ONE/TEN or even ABC where ABC2 can show non-finals matches while ABC1 can show the men’s and women’s final live and commercial-free and they’ll do a terrific job than Seven.

  4. @ Owl, how does ranking 4th & 8th overall for the week and leading Channel 9 to it’s only two “nightly” wins of the week a sign that people don’t care about the cricket?

Channel 10 would Kill for figures as good as the cricket is pulling in.

  5. @ Jay Jay

I can’t say what will happen to Eleven and Masterchef. But for myself I’ll still be watching. The only thing that’ll mess that up is usually Sunday and Smallville when Poirot or the like including Sherlock is on. Which includes tonight. But I have said that Sunday was a bad decision. Unless they repeated them. Oh well DVDs it is then.

    @ owl

I’ll admit I knew the tennis and the cricket were on but was happy to watch something else on one of those multi-channels.

  6. Maybe these figures can be used to show that all Australians aren’t mad about cricket, and don’t obsess with the goings on of the players (and ex-players) as much as the media apparently think. I didn’t even realise that the cricket was on – thanks to the fact that we now have choice through the multi-channels

  7. Interesting figures with the multi-channels. They are fairly close. Everyone was expecting 11 to be miles ahead but doesn’t look like that will happen. It will be interesting to see what happens to 11’s numbers when Masterchef is on.
